When Jim and Linda first came to the house when we returned to DeBary, one of the first things Jim did was to turn on all the electricity and then the water. When he turned on the water, (at the meter), he noticed that the meter kept showing usage even though he gave it time to fill pipes, toilets etc. He quickly shut the water back off and came into the house to see where the water was going.
Well, what he found was that the toilet fill valve in the bathroom, off of the bedroom, was not shutting off and was causing the problem. So, he shut off the valve under the toilet and went back out and re-opened the main valve.
Now, Jim and Linda have never liked that toilet. It had a low seat height, the seat was small and uncomfortable and he had had trouble with the tank valves before. The toilet in the front bathroom wasn't too great either. It had a broken piece under the tank, (which didn't seem to hurt anything,) but it always worried Jim that it would break more and cause a severe leak.
So, a couple days later, Jim called Kevin, (the local handyman, who Jim and Linda have used before). He came over and looked at the toilets and a few other things that Jim and Linda need done here at the house, and suggested Jim head over to Lowe's or Home Depot and pick up a couple toilets and he'd get them installed right away.
Well, that's what Jim did. He found some nice Kohler toilets that were on sale at Lowe's and now we have 2 new toilets that are working perfectly and should last a good long time. :-)
It was an expense that Jim and Linda hadn't counted on, but it's better to replace them now than to wait until they leak or something and cause a whole lot of damage.
Other than that, everything else seems to be working well and except for doing some work in the kitchen and dinning area, (new floor surface), which they were planning to do when we returned, all is well.
Yesterday, Jim and Linda headed over to the Winn Dixie Grocery Store near here to buy a bunch of groceries. As they were checking out at the register, there was an elderly gentleman and his wife checking out in the next isle. The gentleman had a cap on, stating that he was a veteran, and as he was about to pay the cashier, the man in line behind him told him to "put away his card" as he was going to pay for the couple's groceries!! The man told the elderly gentleman that he wanted to thank him for his service to the country and felt that buying his groceries was the least he could do.
What a great gesture!!!!
I hope all of you took a little time to remember all the veterans who gave so much to keep us free. Yeah, we've got some problems, but the good old USA is still the best county in the world!!!
This next Tuesday, both Jim and Linda have appointments to see Dr. Saferali, their chemo doctor for a follow-up appointment. Neither of them expect anything wrong so they're not too worried about going to see her.

It's Been Awhile, Planning A Visit and Keeping An Eye On The East Coast Weather

Forecast = Generally cloudy. Slight chance of a rain shower. High around 60F. Winds NE at 15 to 25 mph.
Again, it's been quite awhile since I've posted on this blog. Hasn't been too much happening, in fact, I guess the weather has been the the main item of conversation around here lately. You see, we went from really nice weather with light winds, highs in the mid-70's to very windy weather, (15 to 25 mph with up to 30 mph gusts), with highs in the low 60's and lows at night getting down to the mid 40's.
As many of you long time readers may remember, Jim is not a big fan of wind. In fact, if he can help it, he won't go out at all when it starts blowing over about 20 mph.
But wait!!!! The weather guesser are saying that there's a change coming and the wind will die down somewhat tomorrow and by Monday, they're guessing that the winds will only be in the 5 to 10 mph range!!! ;-)
Not much else happening. Jim and Linda went out to eat at the Blue Star Restaurant over in Fisher, IL Monday evening, went grocery shopping at the big Meijer's store down in Champaign on Thursday and then went to Arby's for a sandwich last night. It's been pretty quiet here in the CG. Some RVs came in yesterday, but I think they may be part of a "group" that's having a gathering here.
Monday, Big RED is going to take Jim and Linda up to Manteno, IL. (Just a little North of Kankakee), to see Jim's cousin, Adeline. She's had some major medical problems lately, so the plan is to stay for only a couple hours, so she doesn't get too tired.
We're keeping a close eye on the weather along the East Coast, since that's where we'll be heading when we leave here in just over a week. It looks like the storm is going to stay well out to sea, but those things are very unpredictable, so we'll keep watching. Hopefully, for everyone along the coast, it'll stay out there.

A Shopping Day and CG Photos

Yesterday, Jim and Linda took Big RED and headed towards Baraboo. Just before they came to the town, they stopped at Mark's Produce, which is a little roadside stand that has been there for years. Mark and his wife raise almost all the produce locally and every time Jim and Linda have been in this area, they've stopped and purchased some of the very fresh produce that he and his wife sell.
After leaving Mark's, they headed back this way and stopped at the Baraboo Candy Company where Linda stocked up on Sugar-free candy. This is another stop that they always make when in the area.
By this time, it was getting close to lunch time, so they returned back here to grab a bite to eat and to relax for awhile. (actually, Jim took a nap), ;-)
About 3:30, they left again and this time, went into Wisconsin Dells and to the "Trading Post", where Linda bought a new pair of moccasins. After leaving there, they drove through the downtown Dells Area to see if all the old stores were still there and if not, what had taken their places.
On the way back here, Jim and Linda stopped stopped at a Culver's Restaurant and bought some chicken for dinner and then stopped again and bought Big RED a drink of that good old #2 diesel fuel.
Now, he's ready to head up to Warrens this morning for the reunion.

Grown-ups In A Candy Store and A Visit With Very Good Friends

As planned, Jim and Linda took Big RED and headed over to Wildwood yesterday morning. They left about 10:15 and by 11:35 they were pulling up in front of the Russell Stover Candies Store on the West side of town.
They spent about 1/2 hour wandering around in the store, buying sugar free candy for Linda, before heading further West to look for a place to eat, out by I-75. Most of the restaurants were very crowded and they finally settled on the Waffle House where there just happened to a few parking places near the entrance.
After a tasty meal, they headed over to Donna and Monte's house, arriving there a little after 1:00.
They have a very nice double-wind located on a small lake.

After H and H, (Hugs and Handshakes), they all sat at the kitchen table and talked and talked, catching up on what has been happening in their lives since they last saw one another.
Both Jim and Linda said that it was sure good to see Donna and Monte again and visit with them. In fact it was about 4:30 before they left and traveled the hour and a half back here to DeBary, arriving back home about 6:00 pm.
Both Jim and Linda were tired by the time they returned, but it was a very good day, visiting with very good friends.
Did you know that in 1923 Clara and Russell Stover began making candy in the kitchen of their Denver bungalow home? The company, initially employing seven employees was first known as Mrs. Stover's Bungalow Candies.

Happy Easter and Catching Up

Forecast = A mix of clouds and sun during the morning will give way to cloudy skies this afternoon. High 76F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.
Wednesday morning, Jim and Linda loaded some things into the back of Big RED and headed first to Walgreen's to drop off a couple prescriptions and then over to the travel trailer at Highbanks. Jim helped Linda with figuring out where would be the best place to put some of the items inside of the TT and then worked on getting things organized in the limited basement storage area.
They're both having trouble readjusting to the idea that we'll no longer be living in an RV for long periods of time and only need to equip the trailer for "extended vacations".
Oh, don't worry, the plan is still to head North for anywhere from 4 to 6 months during the summers, but they really won't need to take as much along, now that we have a house.
Thursday, Jim went back and picked up the prescriptions as well as some other necessities from Walgreen's and then went across the street to Winn Dixie and bought a whole bunch of groceries. It had been awhile since the last real grocery shopping trip and they also had quite a few items that Jim and Linda regularly use on sale. Then, in the afternoon, he and Linda went back over to the trailer with a few if the items that were bought earlier and did some more organizing.
Friday, Jim wasn't feeling very well so about the only thing that he and Linda did was to wash a couple loads of laundry. Then in the evening, Laura stopped by to chat for awhile. :-) Oh, sometime during the afternoon, Louise called and asked if it would be OK if she and Roland came for a visit on Saturday. Of course both Jim and Linda said that they'd love to see them, but it was not to be. :-(
Saturday morning Louise called back and told Jim that she wasn't feeling well at all that they would have to cancel their visit. She said that they'll try to visit sometime soon as they'll be heading up to their home in North Carolina pretty soon.
Being that Roland and Louise couldn't make it, Jim called Lindsey and asked him if he and Laura would like to go over to Highbanks and see the trailer. He said that they would so about 10:30, Jim and Linda met them over there and gave them the "tour".
After they left, Jim and Linda made the bed and did a little more organizing before coming back here to the house.
Today, Jim and Linda are invited to an Easter Dinner over at Marv and Inez/s, (Lindsey's parents), so Linda baked a cake to take along. Laura won't be able to go because she has to work today, but Lindsey will be there along with some of his brothers and their families.
Did you know that the name Easter owes its origin from Eastre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess who symbolizes hare and egg?

3 Down, 5 To Go and It's Covered

Thursday, after Linda's radiation therapy treatment in the morning, and her visit with Dr. Saferali, (the chemo doctor) in the early afternoon, Jim and Linda took Big RED and headed over to the Truck Stuff store so that Jim could look at something he wanted to buy for Big RED. He didn't say what it was and Big RED didn't know either, but Jim ordered it and was told that it would be there the next day. (Friday).
Yesterday, Linda had her radiation therapy treatment over at the hospital again. This is the end of her 3rd week of radiation treatments so there's only 5 more weeks to go. :-) I think I've said before that these treatments don't take very long and in about 20 to 30 minutes, she's finished and Big RED is bringing them back home. In fact, yesterday, they returned back here before noon.
After watching the news and getting a bite to eat, Jim told Linda that he was going to take Big RED over to the Truck Stuff store and get the item he ordered installed.
So, , , , , off they went. :-)
It didn't take long at all and by about 1:45 I heard Big RED backing into the car/truck port.
So, what did Jim buy for Big RED, you ask???
Well, it's a vinyl folding truck bed cover and it sure looks neat on him. The brand name is Rugged Cover. It has a lifetime warranty and was reasonably priced.
It's a soft vinyl cover so you can't set anything heavy on top of it,
but it does have a metal frame inside of its 3 sections and it folds up behind the cab if you want to haul something tall. It's also easily removable, (4 clamps), so that the whole bed is usable if necessary.
This bed cover should work very well at protecting items that Jim and Linda want to haul around, (wheelchair and walker come to mind right away), plus if they do buy a travel trailer, they'll be able to store "stuff" in the bed of the truck instead of overloading the trailer. The cover has some very good looking weatherseals and Jim is hoping that they'll do a good job of keeping water out.
Nothing special planned for this weekend. The laundry hamper is getting full and I've noticed some dust in places, so there's always those chores to do. :-( And, who knows, maybe they'll go out to eat or something. :-)
Oh, just one more thing. We just learned yesterday that Jim and Linda's good friend, Roland, is having some medical problems and Jim, Linda and I want to send our thoughts and prayers his way.
Did you know that traditional St Patrick’s Day food includes, Irish soda bread, corned beef and cabbage, Irish stew, and of course, Guinness?

Dr. Visits and An Anniversary

Been awhile since I've posted so I thought I'd catch you up on what's been happening around here.
Linda is doing fine. The radiation therapy seems to be going well. She's still having dizzy spells and fatigue from the chemo though, and even after a visit to the chemo doctor on Thursday, it seems like she'll just have to wait for the symptoms to go away. Of course in about 10 weeks or so, she'll be having more chemo treatments, so one has to wonder if they'll be gone for very long, if at all, until she's completely done with all of the treatments. :-(
The radiation treatments only last about 20 minutes or so, and being that they are great over there at getting you in right on your appointment time, it only takes about an hour out of the day to go over there, get the treatment and return back here to the house. :-)
So, one week is behind her, only 7 more to go!!!
Yesterday was Jim and Linda's wedding anniversary. It's hard to believe that they've been married 29 years already. Both were saying that it sure didn't seem that long. When Linda got up yesterday, she found this vase sitting on the table. ;-)
Jim had purchased it on Thursday when he went shopping. He had seen it for sale at the Lotus Garden Chinese Restaurant that he went to when they ordered Chinese for dinner earlier in the week.
Linda seemed to really like it and now it's sitting on the china cabinet where she has her blue dishes.
The plan was to go out for diner yesterday, but Jim wasn't feeling real well, so they stayed home instead.
Maybe they'll go out today. :-)
Don't think that there are any big plans for the next few days. Just normal living, with time out each day for those radiation treatments.

Feeling Better and A Trip To Harbor Freight

I know, it's been quite awhile since I've posted but it's been pretty slow around here in DeBary.
Linda is finally starting to feel a little better. The bone/joint pain from the injection she had last Friday to help the bones produce more blood cells has been pretty bad this time, but I think she's over the worst of it. That should be the last of those injections until she resumes the chemo treatments, after she completes the 8 weeks of radiation treatments.
Jim hasn't been doing much, he's been mostly helping Linda. When her bones and joints ache, it's very hard for her to move around much, so he's been getting things for her and helping in any way he can so she doesn't have to move too much.
Yesterday evening, he took CLT (Cute Little Truck) and headed over to Harbor Freight. I knew that he had been doing some research on the Internet, and I guess he decided on what he wanted, because he came back here with 2 large boxes!!!
You see, he's been getting really "itchy" just sitting around here, watching TV, surfing the Internet, reading and taking naps, so he's decided to start procuring some power tools for the workshop. So far, he's bought some hand tools, such as clamps and other small items, a circular saw, (Skillsaw), and now whatever is in those 2 boxes he brought home last night.
I don't know what he has in mind as far as projects, but from what I've seen when we lived in the house in Illinois, he has made some pretty nifty things.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what he comes up with. ;-)

You see, he's been getting really "itchy" just sitting around here, watching TV, surfing the Internet, reading and taking naps, so he's decided to start procuring some power tools for the workshop. So far, he's bought some hand tools, such as clamps and other small items, a circular saw, (Skillsaw), and now whatever is in those 2 boxes he brought home last night.
I don't know what he has in mind as far as projects, but from what I've seen when we lived in the house in Illinois, he has made some pretty nifty things.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what he comes up with. ;-)

New Hats For Linda and A Trip To Home Depot

Not a real lot happening around here. Linda's doing fine but she has almost no energy. Jim did take her over to the American Cancer Society in Orange City the other day so she could look at some of the hats and head coverings that they have. She found 3 hats that she liked and brought them home.
Since they were just laying on the couch, I though I'd try them on to see what they looked like on me. :-)
Yesterday, Jim got on the Internet and was researching some tools and a small storage cabinet/shed to put in the enclosed area out by the storage shed/workshop. Well, he found what he was interested in at Home Depot, so in the afternoon, he and Linda took CLT and headed over there. Linda waited in CLT while Jim went inside. After a little while he came out with a cart with a large box on it and a smaller box sitting on top of the large one.
The large box contained the storage shed he was looking for and the small one a 7 1/4 inch circular saw.
It was about 3:00 when they returned back here to the house, so Jim decided that he'd see if he could get the shed assembled before dinner. Well, he did it, even though they recommend 2 people for some of the steps. By the time Linda had dinner prepared, (about 5:30), it was finished and sitting in it's spot up against the storage shed/shop wall, next to the entry door.
He plans to use this storage cabinet to store things like a shovel, rake, sprayer, telescoping ladder, and other miscellaneous outdoor tools and supplies. You see, by putting those items in there, it will free up more space inside of the shop so that he can do some small projects in there this winter.
He's also planning on building or buying a cabinet/bench inside of the shop that will be able to hold some more power tools that he will need for those projects.
Did you know that on this date in 1892 - "Triangle" magazine in Springfield, MA, published the rules for a brand new game? The original rules involved attaching a peach baskets to a suspended board. It is now known as basketball.

The Tree, A Gift For Linda and Friday's Appointment

Jim and Linda set up the new tree the other day and I think it looks pretty good. ;-) Since this photo was taken, they have also partially decorated it, but haven't finished yet, so Jim didn't take any more photos of it.
They also strung a string of lights across the windows in the Florida room, but unless Jim takes a photo of them at night, I don't think you'd be able to see them in a daytime photo.
Oh, and Saturday, a delivery man brought a package!!! Linda didn't know it, but Jim had ordered a "Kindle Paper White" for her!!
You see, Jim had been thinking about getting her a Kindle for a long time but had put it off for one reason or another. But now, he reasoned that with this "chemo" stuff coming up, she could use it while she was getting the treatments and it would also be handy for her while we're here at the house and even while traveling. He chose the "Paper White" because Linda's eyes are not real good and the reviews said that it was the easiest one to see under most light conditions.
It took a little while but both Linda and Jim have figured out the basic use of it and have already downloaded about 30 free books from Amazon. ;-)
Laura stopped by for awhile yesterday afternoon. No special reason, just stopped to chat for awhile. I also found out that she's also going to go along to the Chemo place for Linda's "chemo patient education" appointment Friday afternoon. As I understand it, at this appointment, Linda will learn what's all involved with getting the treatments. She will be shown the facilities and a nurse who administers the treatments will walk her through the whole process and answer any questions she has.
Then, on the 12th, Linda will have her first treatment. :-(
OH!!!! I almost forgot!!!! Sunday, Jim and Linda went Christmas shopping and bought a whole bunch of presents. They said that the stores really weren't too crowded and in fact, were kind of surprised how few shoppers were out and about.
Don't think there's anything special planned for the next few days. Linda has been working on a few embroidery projects to use for presents and Jim has been doing a few things around the house, so I suppose they'll be doing more of that.

Lots Of Support and A New Laptop

Linda's had a lot of support the last few days. Family and friends have been calling to encourage her as she comes to terms with the upcoming treatments. Of course Laura has stopped over a few times and Jim has been trying to help her through this emotional time.
Dr. Molpus, the surgeon, has arranged it so that Linda will have her chemo and radiation treatments here in Orange City, at the Florida Hospital. That way, Jim and Linda won't have to make the 30 to 45 minute trip over to Daytona Beach for all those treatments during the next 9 months. Today, the Florida Hospital is supposed to call Linda to make an appointment for her to come in to a informational meeting to learn all about the treatments, the scheduling of them, and what side effects to expect.
I don't think I've mentioned it, but I have been doing this blog on the desktop computer lately because the notebook is having serious problems. Jim says he thinks it's been infected with a virus again, and it's causing it to slow way down and not even load some of the pages.
So, being that it's an old computer, "2006", that is still running Windows XP, Jim and Linda decided that a new one would be the best choice. After some research and talking to a "Computer Doctor" that has been highly recommended, they took CLT and went to Office Depot yesterday and bought a new one.
It was on sale as a "Pre-Black Friday" item and with a rebate, ended up being less than $400. :-) Of course with taxes and some software that Jim wanted, it ended up being more than that. :-(
After they left Office Depot, they headed over to the 4 B's restaurant here in DeBary. It's a restaurant that only serves breakfast and lunch and has been a "local" meeting spot for over 50 years. It's one of those places where the waitresses know most of the people by name and even brings some of them their, "usual" before they order it. ;-)
Oh, and the food is really good too!!!! :-)
Tomorrow, the "Computer Doctor" is going to come here to the house to set up the new computer and try to get all the files off of the old one and onto the new one. Then, Jim, Linda and I will have to learn all about the new Windows 8.1 operating system, so we can use it. :-0
Again, Linda, Jim and I want to thank all of you who have sent best wishes and encouragement Linda's way. The e-mails, phone calls and comments have been a great help in this time of stress. I want to assure you that Linda is doing very well and is getting stronger each day. I have great faith that she'll come through all of this with flying colors and before we know it, we'll be traveling again. :-)

Empty Shelves, Groceries and Getting Ready For The Farm Show
Rantoul, IL

Sunday, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to the Walgreen's store here in Rantoul. They both needed a few items and Jim needed to get his prescription refilled. Since Walgreen's has a few groceries, they had planned on picking up some bread and milk, (that they were completely out of), while they were there, but for some reason, there was no bread on the shelf, so they just bought the milk.
No problem, right?? They would just stop at a convenience store on their way back here to the CG.
But, , , , , at the first convenience store that they went to, no bread on the shelf!!!! Ok, there's another store just down the street, so they went there.
Guess what???? The shelf was empty!!!!!
Wait!!! Wait!!!! What's that behind some other merchandise on the shelf???? 1 loaf of bread!!!!
Yep!! One lonely loaf of bread that got pushed back behind some other items, and, it was even the kind of bread that Jim was looking for!!!! :-) Don't know why all the bread was gone, usually it's not a problem.
Monday, was grocery shopping day, so Jim and Linda headed over to the County Market store and did their thing. Again, they bought more than they should have, but were finally able to get everything stored in the cabinets and fridge.
Yesterday, Jim went over to the office and talked to Louise for awhile. She's trying to get everything ready for the Half Century of Progress Farm Show that will begin a week from tomorrow. The show is held every 2 years and is a really big deal here in Rantoul. There will be thousands of people attending, this CG has been sold out for months, and in fact, many of the sites will have 2 RVs on them. (One plugged into the 30 amp electric and the other one plugged into the 50 amp outlet). They will put "Y" connectors on the water connections and take turns sharing the sewer connection. There will also be many, many RVs dry camping, on the road behind our site and the adjoining road.
The show doesn't start until next Thursday, but some of the RVs will start rolling in here on Monday. Oh!!! And if you look on your calendar, you'll notice that the weekend after the Farm Show is Labor Day weekend, and I'm pretty sure that the CG is completely sold out for that weekend also!!!
It's going to be a busy couple weeks around here!!!!
Later yesterday, Jim took CLT and headed over to Rural King to pick up a few items and then headed over to Thomasboro and picked up the mail. Then, for dinner, he cooked a couple hamburgers out on the grill.

Shopping In Shipshewana and An Excellent Meal
Shipshewana, IN.

One of the reasons that they originally wanted to come to Northern Indiana, was to do some shopping at a few Amish stores here in Shipshewana or Middlebury, so, yesterday was "Tourist Day" for Jim and Linda. Being that we had been in this area a few times before, (the last time in 2006), they had some idea which stores and shops that they wanted to go to.
Their first stop yesterday morning was at the Davis Mercantile where there's a little shop that sells lace items. There, Linda bought some round doilies and some lace curtains for one of the kitchen windows in the house down in Florida.
Their next stop was the Yoder Department Store. There, they bought some shirts and a new leather belt for Jim, some Minnetonka shoes for Linda and some embroidery projects to be used as gifts.
By the time they were finished there, both Jim and Linda were getting tired, so they headed back here to the CG to grab some lunch and to rest. (Jim took a nap). ;-)
For dinner, they decided to go to the Blue Gate Restaurant and Bakery. So, to beat the crowds, (and it does get very crowded for dinner), they headed over there about 4:30. At this restaurant, you can either order from a menu, or you can get what they call a "family style" dinner. Jim and Linda chose the family style with broasted chicken for the meat.
The meal came with a drink, a small loaf of bread, a big plate of chicken, a bowl of dressing, a bowl of mashed potatoes, a bowl of noodles, a boat of gravy and a bowl of green beans. All of this is "all you can eat", so if you run out of anything, they'll bring more. Then, after you're completely stuffed with all of that very good food, you have your choice of about 20 different home made desserts!!!!
For dessert, Jim and Linda both got pie and brought it back here to have later. ;-)
Dinners at the Blue Gate are kind of pricy, but the food is excellent and so is the service. If you come to this area, be sure to try one of the great Amish restaurants. If you like good home cooked food, you won't be disappointed.
After eating they headed for the bakery and purchased some homemade bread and some goodies before heading back here to the park. Once back here, they both "crashed" for the evening.
Today, since a cold front when through here yesterday afternoon, it should be cooler and not so humid. That's good because Jim and Linda want to do a little more shopping and go a few more places before we head up to White Pigeon, MI tomorrow to get the leveling jacks installed on Bobbie T.
We need to be up there by 7:00 AM, so I probably won't have time to do a blog, but I'll post one just as soon as I can to let you know how the installation went.

A Treasure Hunt and A Cookout

I've decided try to cut back on that forecast section above. It was so long that even I didn't want to read it when I went back to review the bogs. Besides, depending on what part of the country you're in, the forecast for the night may very likely change anyway. : O
Thursday, neither Linda nor Jim felt like doing too much, so it was decided that they would just take a ride somewhere. Since Linda had said something about it the other day, Jim suggested that they head west of Rantoul and see if they could find that little cemetery out in the country where a few of Linda's ancestors are buried. They had found it once, quite a few years ago, but had forgotten exactly where it's located.
So, , , , , , they took CLT and headed in the general direction.
CLT said that it was like being on a Treasure Hunt!!!! Both Jim and Linda had an idea of where the cemetery was located, so they started looking for familiar roads and landscapes that would help them. When they got about 4 or 5 miles West of Rantoul, Jim turned South on a blacktop road that he was pretty sure headed the right way. After 3 or so miles on that road, they turned West on a small blacktop road, but after following it for a short distance, decided that that was not the road they wanted.
About this time, they came upon a couple of farmers who had stopped along the road to talk to each other, so Jim stopped and asked them if they happened to know where the Jersey cemetery might be located. He described it to them and told them what he and Linda could remember about it, such as it being located at the crossroads of 2 small blacktop roads and being on the SE corner of the intersection.
After some thought, one said that there was one like they described, just about 2 miles from where they were and gave Jim and Linda directions to get to it. (Gotta love these friendly farm folks). ; )
So, following the instructions given, Jim and Linda found the cemetery, and it was just like they had remembered.
As you can see, someone still takes care of the cemetery and cuts the grass regularly, even though there is no longer a church here. There's also evidence of some of the remaining markers being re-set.
This is the marker that Linda and Jim were looking for. You probably can't see it in the photo, but there are names and dates on both of the sides that you can see. One side gives the information about Linda's Great Grandmother, and the other side is for her Great Great Grandmother, both from Linda's father's side.
Evidently times were hard in those days, so they used the same marker for both women.
After Linda got the information that she needed for her Family Tree program, she and Jim enjoyed a leisurely drive through the country, back here to the Campground.
Oh, and they now have the GPS location and the road sign numbers from the intersection where the cemetery is located. ; )
Yesterday, not much happened. Jim went to the Rural King store and picked up a few things and then later, got some weed killer from Louise and sprayed the weeds that are growing up through the gravel in our site.
Today, Paul and Louise, (the campground hosts), are going to have a cookout!! Don't know what they're going to be cooking out on the grill, but knowing Louise, I'm sure it'll be really good. : ) Linda is going to make a desert to take over there and I'm sure that some of the others from the park that Louise invited will also bring food.
Sounds like a P A R T Y !!!!!!!!!

I've decided try to cut back on that forecast section above. It was so long that even I didn't want to read it when I went back to review the bogs. Besides, depending on what part of the country you're in, the forecast for the night may very likely change anyway. : O
Thursday, neither Linda nor Jim felt like doing too much, so it was decided that they would just take a ride somewhere. Since Linda had said something about it the other day, Jim suggested that they head west of Rantoul and see if they could find that little cemetery out in the country where a few of Linda's ancestors are buried. They had found it once, quite a few years ago, but had forgotten exactly where it's located.
So, , , , , , they took CLT and headed in the general direction.
CLT said that it was like being on a Treasure Hunt!!!! Both Jim and Linda had an idea of where the cemetery was located, so they started looking for familiar roads and landscapes that would help them. When they got about 4 or 5 miles West of Rantoul, Jim turned South on a blacktop road that he was pretty sure headed the right way. After 3 or so miles on that road, they turned West on a small blacktop road, but after following it for a short distance, decided that that was not the road they wanted.
About this time, they came upon a couple of farmers who had stopped along the road to talk to each other, so Jim stopped and asked them if they happened to know where the Jersey cemetery might be located. He described it to them and told them what he and Linda could remember about it, such as it being located at the crossroads of 2 small blacktop roads and being on the SE corner of the intersection.
After some thought, one said that there was one like they described, just about 2 miles from where they were and gave Jim and Linda directions to get to it. (Gotta love these friendly farm folks). ; )
So, following the instructions given, Jim and Linda found the cemetery, and it was just like they had remembered.
As you can see, someone still takes care of the cemetery and cuts the grass regularly, even though there is no longer a church here. There's also evidence of some of the remaining markers being re-set.
Evidently times were hard in those days, so they used the same marker for both women.
After Linda got the information that she needed for her Family Tree program, she and Jim enjoyed a leisurely drive through the country, back here to the Campground.
Oh, and they now have the GPS location and the road sign numbers from the intersection where the cemetery is located. ; )

Shopping and More Wind
Rantoul, IL.

About 11:00 yesterday morning, Jim and Linda took CLT, (Cute Little Truck), and headed to Wally World to buy some items for Linda. Walmart is probably one of Jim's least favorite places to go shopping, but when you're in a small town like Rantoul and you need to go to a department store, you really don't have much choice if you don't want to drive 15 or so miles to go to a larger city.
Anyway, after walking and walking, they finally found most of what Linda was looking for. By this time, Linda was completely worn out, so instead of going into Wally World's grocery section, they paid for their purchases and headed over to County Market. There, Linda waited in CLT while Jim went inside and quickly picked up some items that they were out of.
Jim says that he doesn't know what it is about Walmart, but he says that every time he goes there, it seems like he has to search and search for the items he wants to purchase. His theory is that they set up the store so that you have to go down as many isles as possible, so that you'll see and pick up other items as you shop for what's on your list.
Hmmmm!!!!
After coming back here and getting everything put away, the afternoon was spent relaxing. ; )
Nothing much planned for today, it's supposed to be windy again. I don't know what's up with the wind. It was windy again yesterday and today they're forecasting even stronger winds with gusts into the mid 30 mph range. I can't remember any other years when there was so much wind for so many days. : (

A Trip To County Market and CLT's Brake Lights

Just as I thought, Jim and Linda didn't do a whole lot yesterday. Just before noon, they headed over to the County Market Grocery Store and picked up some bread, lunch meat, coffee, and one of those roasted chickens from the deli.
After they returned, Linda had her lunch and Jim laid down and took a pretty long nap. ; ) After he woke, he went outside and hooked up Bobbie T's sewer hose and dumped the tanks. Then, after a nice chicken dinner, Jim went back outside to make sure everything was secured for the night.
That's when he noticed that there were some lights on, on the back of CLT. After checking, he found that the brake lights were stuck on and wouldn't turn off!!! He reached under the dash and unplugged the brake light switch and then did a little checking to try to find out what was wrong.
Well, he found out that there was a little plastic piece on the brake pedal arm that contacts the switch when the brake pedal is released, (turning the switch off), and it had broken and had fallen off and onto the floor, ( more than likely it became brittle because of age), so there was nothing there to shut off the switch!!!
There wasn't anything that Jim could do last night, so he tried to start CLT, but the battery was almost completely dead and CLT's engine wouldn't crank at all. So, this morning, Jim will go down to see if Paul can bring one of his vehicles over here to our site to jump CLT's battery. Then, Jim will have to try to figure out what to do with the brake light switch. : (

I Was Wondering, A Trip To Camping World and Just Hanging Around
Myrtle Beach, SC.

I was wondering how long it would last.
What are you talking about, you ask?? Well, since Jim and Linda purchased Bobbie T, Jim has been sitting at the dinette. In the previous RVs that they've had, there's always been a sofa for him to sit on, but Bobbie T only has the dinette, and now since they've changed the original chair, Linda's recliner chair.
Now, for the record, Jim has never complained about sitting at the dinette, but Linda has been concerned for some time now, as it seems that Jim has been having more problems with his back.
If it wasn't for the much needed storage space under the seats of the dinette, I think Jim would have already ripped the dinette out and installed at least one and maybe 2 comfortable chairs in it's space. So, what to do??
Well Thursday, they headed over to one of the two Camping World stores here in Myrtle beach and looked for some kind of a folding chair that could be used inside and would be more comfortable for Jim. What they found was a folding recliner chair that has a slide-out footrest. It's called a "Pepper Leaf Recliner".
It was kind of hard for Jim to take these photos because of the limited room inside of Bobbie T. but I think you'll be able to see how it's possible to use this chair inside. In these first photos the chair is set up along side of the dinette. This is how it will be when Jim is watching TV or just relaxing. (Of course the chair can be used outside too).
In this photo you can see how the chair is folded up and can be positioned against the wall when Jim is not using it or the dinette is needed for eating or working on the computer.
This is not an ideal situation and Jim doesn't much like the upholstery on the chair, but for now it'll work. In the future, that dinette just may come out of there and replaced with a nice comfy chair, but Jim and Linda don't have to make that decision today. ; )
While they were at CW, they also bought some other things that they needed. One of them was what they call a "knife Safe". It mounts on the inside of a cabinet door and you can store your cutlery in it, thus getting those sharp knives out of a drawer. They also bought a new water pressure regulator for the city water hook-up, and a padded topper cover to go on their mattress. And, Jim picked up 3 of those small American Flags, that he likes because the ones he has now are starting to show their age.
Yesterday morning, we had some real heavy rain here in Myrtle Beach. In fact, on the TV they were saying that we got more than an inch and a half!! The rest of the day, went from cloudy with sprinkles to sun to back to cloudy again, with yet another fairly heavy shower in the evening.
During one of the breaks in the weather, Jim and Linda went to a nearby Kroger's store and picked up a few groceries, but other than that, just hung around inside.
Today, the weather is supposed to be much better. In fact, I was just looking outside and it looks like we may have a neat sunrise. There are some clouds out over the ocean and that usually makes the sunrise even better.
I'd better go and see if I can get Jim to go out there with his camera and get a few pictures. ; )

Continuing With Yard Work and Getting The House And Bobbie T Ready,
DeBary, FL.

Jim and Linda took CLT (Cute Little Truck), and headed over to the house yesterday morning. When they arrived, Bob was there and was working on pulling the bushes out on the East side of the house. Jim snapped this photo of Bob as he was getting something out of his trailer.
He's been very busy and has been making great progress. The photo below, shows how it looked before Bob started on this side. These bushes were trimmed just a month and a half ago and as you can see, they definitely need trimming again. (Way too much care needed).
Buy the time Bob left, this is what it looked like. All these edging blocks were hidden under the bushes, but were tipped over, misaligned and even buried under the ground. This area will now be filled with mulch and then when we come back in the fall there will possibly be some small low maintenance plants planted.
Being that we'll be away from the house for at least 6 months at a time, the whole yard needs to be low maintenance. No bushes that need constant trimming or pruning, no areas that need constant weeding and only plants that will survive occasional frost.
While Linda was doing the last load of laundry, Jim was continuing to ready the house for hibernation. By the time the laundry was done, everything was pretty much ready except for turning off most of the power.
The only power that will be left on will be the A/C, (with the thermostat set at 85 degrees to keep it from getting too hot inside and to keep the humidity down), a circuit that feeds the shed, (so that the lawn sprinkler system can be operated if it gets too dry), and one circuit that feeds the front of the house and the yard light.
It was about 2:30 by the time CLT brought Jim and Linda back here to Highbanks, (after a quick stop at Winn Dixie to pick up a few groceries). Then, Jim and Linda started to concentrate on getting Bobbie T ready to travel.
Linda worked on getting everything secured inside while Jim added some water to the fresh water tank, dumped the black and grey water tanks and put all the hoses away.
Because by this time they were tired, for dinner, they headed over to Burger King for a sandwich.
There's still some things to do this morning, but I think they have most everything taken care of. Many things will be double-checked because this will be the first actual trip with Bobbie T, and every RV has it's own little items that need to be attended to.
The plan today is to head up to Callahan, FL. and to Kelly's Countryside RV Park, which is NW of Jacksonville. We've been to that park many times before and know what to expect. If anything comes up that needs attention by the time we get there, it'll be a good place to address it. We'll stay there for 2 nights before continuing our journey towards Virginia Beach. Along the way, the plan is to stop in Myrtle Beach for 4 nights, (Jim has made reservations at a park there), with miscellaneous other stops along the way.
Each travel day will be 4 hours or less, so it should be a nice relaxing trip. : )
Oh, and except for using Interstates in the Jacksonville, FL/Savannah, GA area, it'll be all 2 lane roads!!!
Now, that's the kind of traveling I've been missing!!! ; )

Up On The Roof and Shopping

By a little after 10:00 yesterday morning, Jim was up on Bobbie T's roof. With him, he had the 2 vent covers he had bought, his battery powered drill and some miscellaneous tools.
Those of you that know Jim well, know that being on a roof is not his favorite thing to do, but soon he was measuring, drilling and fastening the cover to the vents. It actually didn't take very long to install the covers and in a little over an hour, he was back down on the ground and putting everything away. : )
Now, if it's raining, Jim and Linda can still open the vents to get some air circulation through the motor home.
About 1:00 Laura stopped by and picked up Linda. They did end up going over to the mall where first they stopped at a restaurant for a light lunch and then went to a clothing store and bought Linda some jeans. Linda said that she looked for some tops too, but didn't find anything she liked.
While Linda and Laura were gone shopping, Jim took a nice long nap and did a little reorganizing inside of me. : )
When Linda returned she was quite tired so it was decided that Jim head over to Winn Dixie and pick up some much needed groceries while she took a little nap. In about an hour, Jim was back and Linda helped him put the groceries away.
Today, the plan is to head over to the house to do some laundry. Jim got an e-mail from Bob yesterday, and he's already started on the yard work, so it'll be interesting to see what he's done so far.

When Linda returned she was quite tired so it was decided that Jim head over to Winn Dixie and pick up some much needed groceries while she took a little nap. In about an hour, Jim was back and Linda helped him put the groceries away.
Today, the plan is to head over to the house to do some laundry. Jim got an e-mail from Bob yesterday, and he's already started on the yard work, so it'll be interesting to see what he's done so far.
Did you know that today is "National Peanut Butter and Jelly Month"?
Hmmmm!!! Sounds good to me, but that peanut butter gets stuck to the roof of my mouth. : )
