DeBary, FL.
74 deg. Partly cloudy, no wind.
Forecast = Partly cloudy. High 91F. Winds SE at 10 to 20 mph.
Yesterday, Jim had an appointment with the Chemo Doctor, (Dr. Gupta), and so he and Linda finally got some answers!!
You see, Jim took a disk of his PET Scan to the hospital and answered a bunch of questions way back on the 20th. He was told that the doctor would look at the scan and then they would call him and let him know when he should come in for the biopsy.
Well, , , , , he waited and waited. Linda finally called the hospital but never could get an answer. She then called the chemo doctor, (who had ordered the biopsy), but got no answer there either. Both places said that "they'd get back to her", but never did! :-( However, at one point, someone did say that they didn't know if Jim was a "good candidate" for the procedure as the left lung was "compromised" and he does have some emphysema.
Anyway, yesterday, he had an appointment with Dr. Gupta and he and Linda finally found out what was going on. The doctor at the hospital didn't think it was a good idea to do the procedure, but somewhere along the line, there was a lack of communication and that fact was never relayed to Jim and Linda. There was one more option, but it involved surgery and it would be risky as well, so it was decided to just go ahead and treat the new spot on the lung as though it was a worst case scenario.
This next Tuesday, Jim will go to the chemo doctor's office for "Patient Education" and then on Friday, he'll have his first treatment. They will be using the new drug, OPDIVO, and it will be given to him every other week for at least 9 weeks. At that time he will have a "scan" and any further treatment will depend on that.
There are some side effects of this drug, but he was told that most patients were able to tolerate the drug very well. Hopefully, the treatments won't be too bad.
Also, either sometime this next week, or possibly the first part of the next, Jim will start radiation treatments. It sounds like they will be scheduled just like they were the last time. 5 days a week, Monday through Friday.
So, , , , , , now you know just about all of what I know. These last few weeks have been very stressful, but now that we know when and what these treatments will be, it takes a lot of the stress out of it. Hopefully everything will go fairly smoothly and we can get back to a more normal life.
A Quote to Ponder : "Look up to the sky. You'll never find rainbows if you're looking down"

Final Plans Made To See Roland And Louise Before Rally
Moncure, NC
deg.
Forecast =
As most of you know, we're heading to an RV-Dreams Reunion Rally in Marion, NC. But, before we go there, we've been planning on stopping by Roland and Louise's place in Forest City, NC. Well, yesterday Jim called Roland and final plans were made to head there on Monday and stay until Friday morning, when we'll head up to the Rally, which is just a little North of Roland and Louise's house.
Jim and Linda are excited about seeing Roland and Louise again. They only got to see them a little this past winter, down in Florida, so are looking forward to spending some quality time with them now.
The past days have been spent just doing normal things during the days and then going to Mike and Gina's in the evenings. There have been a few evenings when they've had other things to do, and it sounds like Saturday is all tied up for them, but we're hoping that Sunday, they can either come out here again or we can spend some time with them at their house.
Yesterday, Jim and Linda took Big RED and went to a Target Store and purchased some items for an embroidery project that Linda has planned. Today, they need to head up to Pittsboro to go to a Walgreen's to get a couple prescriptions refilled and then to a grocery store to buy a few items that they're out of. Then, this evening they'll go to Mike's for dinner and more visiting.
Did you know that today is "National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day?"

Pizza With Mike And Terri and A Doctor's Appointment
Rantoul, IL.
58 deg. clear, W. wind @ 6 mph.
Forecasts = Partly cloudy with scattered showers. Highs around 81°F. West wind to 6 MPH. Chance of precipitation near 30%.
Finally!!!! After a whole bunch of prodding, Jim finally got out his camera and took a photo of Terri and Mike Young!!! I didn't think he was ever going to get a photo of them!!!
Yesterday after lunch, Jim and Linda called Mike and Terri to see if they'd be interested in getting together to have Pizza for dinner? They were up for the idea and they discussed either going out to eat at Monical's Pizza or to order something from them and bring it back here. It was decided that they'd order Pizzas and bring them back here.
So, about 5:30 Mike and Terri came over here, the pizzas were ordered and Jim and Mike took Big RED and picked them up.
While they were gone, Linda and Terri got things ready here at the trailer.
I think everyone enjoyed their food and I know they all enjoyed the visiting during and after the meal. :-) After visiting for awhile, Mike and Terri headed home. (To their 5th wheel trailer). The rest of the evening was spent watching TV.
This morning, Linda has an appointment with her primary care doctor over in Fisher, IL., (The doctor who found Linda's cancer last August). She'll be getting a blood test so she won't be able to eat or drink anything before they go. That's OK though, they;ll probably head over to the Blue Star Family Restaurant for breakfast right after the appointment. ;-)
No other plans for today. The weather has been great around here the last few days, so maybe Jim will do something outside.

A Great Day With Friends
DeBary, FL.
69 deg. overcast, SW wind @ 5 mph.
Forecast = Cloudy early with peeks of sunshine expected late. High 83F. Winds SSW at 15 to 25 mph.
I had a great day yesterday!!!!
I just couldn't wait for Laurie and George to arrive yesterday morning, and as soon as Laurie called and told Jim that they would be here around 11:30, I went out into the Florida Room and waited for them.
A little after 11:30 they arrived and after h and h, (hugs and handshakes), and a tour of the house and yard, Jim, Linda, George and Laurie sat down and talked and talked and talked. :-) After they had talked awhile, they all decided that they would order Chinese for lunch. After ordering, Jim and George, took George and Laurie's big truck and headed over to the restaurant to pick it up.
It must have been pretty good because much of the food was gone when they finished eating.
After they finished, they talked some more and then Jim took this photo of Laurie and George. I was so excited when Laurie picked me up so that I could be in the photo too. :-)
About 3:30, after more h and h, they decided that it was time for them to head back to their 5th wheel trailer near Altoona, FL, where they're work-camping at a National Forest. It sure was great to have them here for the afternoon. Laurie's father who lives in California is dealing with cancer too, and getting chemo treatments, so she and Linda had a lot to talk about. In fact, Laurie will be flying out there to be with him soon.
It sure was nice of them to come and visit. I think it helped Linda a lot to have someone else to talk to and to get her mind off of her medical problems.
Thanks so much for coming to visit. You know where we live now, so maybe you can come back again sometime. ;-)
Oh, and George, I'm sure there'll be some more grapefruit for you to take home if you come again. ;-)

CLT Goes To A Mechanic, Decorations and A Second Phone
DeBary, FL.
62 deg. light fog, no wind
Forecast = Mainly sunny to start, then a few afternoon clouds. High near 85F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph.
Wednesday, Jim took CLT to a mechanic down on US 17/92. You see, for a while now, there has been a clunking noise coming from his steering wheel, and just lately, his horn has started blowing at odd times while driving down the road. Jim was quite sure that something had come loose in the steering column and didn't want to take any chances of the steering either locking up or coming apart! :-O
The mechanics at Bob Gorman's Alignment and Brake Center did a fine job and soon had CLT's steering repaired. While he was there, Jim also had the mechanic install new shocks on the front and do an alignment. Now CLT doesn't bounce while driving down the road and Jim says that he drives better too. :-)
While CLT was at the mechanic's, (Bob brought Jim back here to the house while CLT was being repaired), Jim and Linda finished decorating the tree. I think it looks pretty nice and I'm even starting to get into the Christmas spirit. ;-)
Then, about 4:30 Bob called and told Jim that CLT was finished and he would be picking him up in just a short while. In about 10 minutes, Bob arrived with CLT and picked Jim up. They headed back to the shop where Jim paid the bill, (Jim thought the charges were very reasonable), before bringing CLT back here.
Since she doesn't know how the chemo treatments are going to affect her, Linda's getting worried about getting everything ready for the upcoming holiday. In fact, yesterday, she and Jim were making a list of things that need to get done before the treatments start. Then, about 2:00 they took CLT and headed out to do some shopping and to see about getting another phone so that they can contact each other.
You see, all these years, Jim and Linda have only had one phone, and that had worked quite well because they were almost always together. Now, since we're here in DeBary, there already have been some times when a second phone would have come in real handy. After checking on how much it would cost to have another phone line added to their regular plan, it was decided to just go with a pre-paid phone, which was much less expensive.
After doing the shopping and getting the phone, they came back here for while and then headed to Gram's Kitchen in Orange City for dinner.
This afternoon, Linda has an appointment at the chemotherapy place for a "Chemo Patient Education" session. From what I understand, they will show Linda the facilities, explain the procedures to her and answer any questions she has about the treatment process and the side effects. Jim and Laura will also go along so that they will also have an idea of what Linda is going through.
Then on the 12th, (next Thursday), Linda will have her first treatment.
A Point to Ponder : Being kind is more important than being right.

A Doctor Located and GA To FL
Chiefland, FL.
73 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast = Partly cloudy with a chance of a thunderstorm and a chance of rain. High of 90F with a heat index of 95F. Winds from the West at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50%.
Finally after many telephone calls, including calls from Laura to some connections she has, a doctor was found that could take Linda in for an appointment. Yesterday, an appointment was finally made with a doctor in Daytona Beach for next Thursday. This is a preliminary visit to do further tests to see just what has to be done, and also to find out for sure if there is cancer or not. Then the report will be sent to the doctor that Laura originally found for Linda and decisions about further procedures will be made.
Again, things started to happen after Laura started calling people. Thanks, Laura!!! :-)
We left Thomasville, GA about 9:50 yesterday morning and headed South on US 19. Following 19 brought us down into Florida and eventually here to Chiefland and the Chiefland RV Park.
It was 12:20 when we pulled into the park, so it took us about 2 1/2 hours to travel 127 miles.
The Chiefland RV Park is nothing special, but we have a full hook-up site with cable TV at the Passport America rate of $17.44. We're also parked under a huge live oak tree that gave us some very nice shade that was greatly appreciated, as the temperature was in the mid 90's when we arrived here.
Being that we had a back-in site, Jim had to unhook CLT from the back of Bobbie T for the first time since we left Rantoul. So, since CLT was unhooked, for dinner, Jim and Linda took him and went to Mya's Chinese Restaurant for dinner. They said that the food was good and the service was very good.
And it gave them a chance to get out and about a little. ;-)
Today, we'll get to DeBary. Jim and Linda have decided that they're going to try get enough "stuff" moved into the house so that they can stay in the house tonight. They may not have quite everything they would like to have for the house, but by temporally taking some items from inside of Bobbie T into the house, (that normally would stay in Bobbie T), they should be able to make the house livable. By doing that, they won't have to worry about running the AC on a 20 amp circuit at Laura's tonight.
Then, hopefully by tomorrow, most of rest of the "stuff" will be moved into the house and Bobbie T can be parked in the storage lot.
Did you know that today is "National Toasted Marshmallow Day" ?

They Don't Understand
Rantoul, IL
68 deg. rain, NW wind @ 11 mph.
Forecast = High temp. 81 deg. Partly cloudy in the morning, then clear. NW wind @ 10 to 20 mph.
Received a comment on yesterday's post from Rod, wanting to know if we would lose our site here in Rantoul when we head up to Kankakee on Monday?
Well, yesterday morning, Jim went over and told Louise what our plans were and she said that it was not a problem and that our site would be here when we got back, and in fact, she said that if Jim wanted to leave his bicycle locked to the picnic table while we're gone, that would be OK too.
Louise and Paul have been really good to us throughout the years, and that's one of the main reasons we keep coming back here year after year. : )
Oh, I want to share with you, a kind of strange e-mail that Jim and Linda received from their telephone company yesterday. This is what it said.
"Because your safety is our top concern, here are some safety tips to help you prepare in case a hurricane affects Sioux Falls".
Then the e-mail went on to list the things that you should do to prepare for the storms.
Now, the last time I checked, there weren't too many hurricanes going through the Sioux Falls Area. I guess phone companies just don't understand our traveling lifestyle and the fact that we have a phone number that was issued in Florida but have the billing address in Sioux Falls, SD. ; )
My guess is that the e-mail was generated by a computer and sent to everyone who has a phone number with a FL prefix.
Last night, Jim and Linda were talking about going to the grocery store today, so they may do that. If not, I'm sure that they'll start getting Bobbie T and CLT ready to travel. We've been here a month already so there's quite a bit of "stuff" that needs to be packed away. ; )
Actually, it shouldn't take too long to get ready to travel, but after you've been someplace for a while, it seems like its going to be a big job. ; )
Did you know that on this date in 1920 - The U.S. Post Office Department ruled that children may not be sent by parcel post?

Brrrrr!!! It's Cold and Getting Ready For The Holiday
Rantoul, IL.
38 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast = Today: Sunny. Highs around 64°F. North wind to 10 MPH.
Tonight: Mostly clear. Lows around 43°F. Northeast wind to 7 MPH.
Brrrrrr!!!!!!! I'm sure glad that I've got my little red shirt on!!!! I'd be freezing if I didn't, 38 degrees is just too cold for late May day in central Illinois!!!!
One good thing about it, though, is that as this cold front came through, it pushed the windy conditions away that we've been having. ; )
RVs are already starting to filter into the park here in Rantoul. I don't know just how many, but I would guess somewhere between 5 and 10 came into the CG yesterday and I'm sure there will be many more today. And, by the end of the day tomorrow, it should be completely full.
Speaking of Holidays, I think that it was the first year that we were full-timing that Jim and Linda realized that for major holidays, you had better get into a CG or RV park early, and then just hunker down. I don't remember for sure which holiday it was, ( I think it might have been our first 4th of July as full-timers), that we ended up driving for miles trying to find a CG that had a vacant space. There wasn't good cell phone signals way back then, so we couldn't call ahead easily, but we finally found a CG. It was less than desirable though, with lots of noisy people and a jillion kids running through the sites. : (
There will probably be quite a few kids here at this park this weekend and lots of people celebrating the holiday, but from past experience, Louise and Paul won't let any of them get out of hand. I've seen many the time when Paul or Louise has gone over and had a "talk" with a group that was getting too rowdy or their kids weren't behaving.
Yesterday evening, Jim and Linda took CLT and went to the China Express Restaurant here in Rantoul. They have a very good buffet or you can order off of a menu.
Don't know what's happening today. They're forecasting a cool but very nice day, so I'm sure Jim will be out and about for a change. As for me, I'm looking forward to watching all the RVs coming into the CG. It's always interesting to watch people set up their RVs and campsite.
Well, I'd better go. I've got to remind Jim to put his American flags back out. He brought them in the other day because of the strong winds. ; )
Did you know that Memorial Day was first called “Decoration Day” because of the practice of decorating soldier’s graves with flowers?

Woof!!!

Panic Time and All Plans Changed
DeBary, FL.
43 deg. Clear, SW Wind @ 5 mph.
Forecast = Today: Sunny. Highs around 79°F. Southwest wind to 9 MPH.
Tonight: Clear. Lows around 52°F. West southwest wind 2 to 8 MPH.
All plans were changed yesterday. The origina plan was to go over to the house, do a couple loads of laundry, gather a few things that have been taken over there and bring them back here, go to ACE Hardware to buy a few things that they currently have on sale and continue re-organizing the storage areas of Bobbie T.
But, that didn't happen!!!!
Now, I'll bet you're wondering why? Well, about 10:30, Linda asked Jim to hand her the phone so that she could call her sister, (Nancy), up in Illinois and wish her a Happy Birthday. Jim looked on the table, where thy usually put the phone at night, and it wasn't there!! Then he and Linda both started looking everywhere inside of Bobbie T that they could think of.
No Phone!!! : (
Now, what to do? All of the phone numbers of all their contacts were on that phone. Many of them not written down anywhere else. And, they only have that 1 phone, so there was no way to even call anyone!!!
Panic Time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK, time to sit back and try to figure out where the phone might be, and how to go about finding it. The day before, Jim knew he had it in the morning because when Roland and Louise were coming, they called for directions. But, after that, the phone wasn't used all day!!
Jim had an idea. He'd go over to Birdie's, (a lady who lives in a class C near us, who Jim had done a favor for awhile back), and ask her to call the phone while Linda stayed home and listened for it to ring,. (Maybe it had slid down behind a dinette seat, or something and Linda could find it.) Well, she called 3 times but Linda didn't answer so it was presumed that it wasn't inside of Bobbie T. : (
Then, he asked Birdie to call Roland's number (which he had looked up on the computer before he went over there), because he thought the phone just might have come off of his belt while he was in the back seat of his car when they were going over to see the house.
Well, Birdie called Roland for Jim, he went out to the car and looked, and sure enough, the phone was in the back seat of their car!!! : )
OK!!! Found the phone!!! The only problem was that Roland and Louise's house is about 90 mile away in Frostproof, FL. And, it's on the other side of Orlando, which is notoriously very busy, especially on a Friday!! Jim and Linda really did need the phone though, so there really was only one option, and that was to go to Frostproof to retrieve it. : (
So, about noon they left, filled CLT up with 87 octane and headed West on I-4, (through Orlando which was already starting to have serious traffic back-ups), and South on US 27 to Frostproof. It took them about 2 hours to get down there.
Once at Roland and Louise's, they picked up their phone, and then Roland and Louise fixed them a great lunch consisting of steak and a salad!!! And, both Jim and Linda said the steak was excellent!! What a treat!!!!
OK, I know that this is getting pretty long, and I'm probably boring many of you to death, but we're getting to the end. ; )
After eating, Jim and Linda hopped back into CLT and headed back this way. Being that I-4 was now backed up for miles and miles, Jim decided to take US 27 all the way up to Leesburg, and then take routes 441 and 46 back here to DeBary. It was further but they didn't have to sit in traffic back-ups.
Anyway, by the time they got back here, it was close to 7:00 PM!! Jim was very tired, so he laid down on the bed and just crashed for about an hour while Linda dozed in her chair.
Not at all what they had planned for the day, but both said that it was nice to see Roland and Louise again so soon. And, they had to drive a long way to have a great lunch, but both said that it was worth it!!!! ; )
Thanks so much, Birdie, and Roland and Louise!!! You're great friends!!! And, because of all of you, the day ended as well as possible. : )

Oh, and Linda did get to call her sister and wish her a Happy Birthday!!!! ; )
