Nothing special happened since I last posted except, yesterday, Jim had his last Radiation treatment!! :-) That means that he won't have to be getting up and leaving here by 8;15 every weekday morning and hopefully, some of the side effects such as the fatigue Jim has been experiencing, will start to fade away.
He also had his last weekly Chemo treatment yesterday. The next treatment will be in about 21 days, although, he will still have to go in to get a blood test every week, in-between the treatments. The Chemo treatments Jim has been receiving, have lasted about 3 hours, but these last 2 treatments will last about 5 hours, so it will be a longer day and who knows what the side effects will be from the heavier dose of the medications.
To celebrate Jim's last Radiation Treatment, He and Linda went to Gram's Kitchen for dinner last night. Jim ordered the Prime Rib Special that they have every weekend and Linda ordered meatloaf. As usual both dinners were very good.
Oh, speaking of food!!! The other day, Jim received an e-mail from Dave, (one of the Illinois bunch), and they are having their annual "fish fry" over at their home at the Southern Aire RV Park in Thonotosassa, FL tomorrow.
If you are a long time reader of this blog, you may remember that the whole Illinois Bunch used to spend the winter at that RV Park and we used to spend a couple weeks each winter camping over there and visiting with them. Well, we lost Gordy a couple years ago and Dorthy sold their Motorhome. Denny and Bev have not been coming down to Florida for the last couple years, so that just leaves Dave and Dee Dee who have bought a Park Model Home over there.
Anyway, every summer, Dave does a lot of fishing up in Illinois. He and Dee Dee freeze the fish and bring them down here for a "fish fry" for their friends. Most everyone brings food along, so they end up having a Pot Luck Dinner with the fish as the main dish. If I remember right, there were about 50 people there for the last fish fry that Jim and Linda were able to attend, 2 years ago.
If Jim is still feeling well, Lila will take them over there tomorrow. They're planning on eating around 3:00 but if they can, Jim and Linda will head over there earlier so that they can spend tome time visiting with Dave and Dee Dee, before they get too busy with meal set-up, preparation and cooking.
Should be a fun day, and it will be a good excuse for Jim and Linda to get out of here for a day. ;-)

GA To FL and Back Home To DeBary
DeBary, FL

Forecast = Some sun this morning with increasing clouds this afternoon. High 78F. Winds ENE at 10 to 20 mph.
We left the Parkwood RV Park in Statesboro, GA about 9:45 Thursday morning and headed South, down into Florida on US 301. The roads were good and by 12:30 we sitting in front of the office at Kelly's Countryside RV park which is just North of Callahan, FL. We had traveled 142 miles and it took us right at 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Our main reason for staying here was so that Jim and Linda could meet grand daughters, Ashley and Anna, (and Ashley's friend, Chris), for dinner at the Cedar River Seafood Restaurant in Callahan for dinner.
Phone calls were made, plans were made and by 6:30 pm, they were all enjoying nice meals and lots of good conversation. ;-)
Friday morning, we left Kelly's at 9:25 and continued Southeast on US 23 down to I-295, which took us around the West side of Jacksonville. When we got down to the South side of the city, we turned South on US 17 and brought it all the way down to Orange City, where we turned off of 17 on local roads and took them to the Paradise Lakes Travel Trailer Park in Deltona, FL.
It was 12;35 when we pulled into the park and we had traveled 154 miles in 3 hours and 10 minutes.
Once Nora was parked, leveled and hooked up to the electric, Linda called Laura and Lindsey to tell them we were on our way over to the double wide house. We met them there and they helped un-pack Big RED and then followed us back to the RV Park, where Laura, Lindsey, Linda and Jim, (and Anna who had driven down to DeBary for the weekend), started unloading most of the "stuff" out of Nora and packing it into Big RED and Laura's car.
By about 5:00 most everything had been brought into the house and a pizza was ordered. After eating, Laura, Lindsey and Anna headed home and Jim and Linda just kind of collapsed after a long day.
Yesterday was spent putting things away and resting. Jim took a long nap in the afternoon and Linda worked on some of her "Family Tree" stuff to relax. Today Jim and Linda need to go back to the RV Park to get some more "stuff" out of Nora. There's not a real lot over there that they'll be bringing back here to the house, but some of it is important for daily use.
All in all, we had a very good trip this summer. If I get a chance, I'm going to figure out how many miles we traveled and some other statistics and post them here. I don't know when that will be though as from now on, there won't be a whole lot to post about as we all go about our daily lives, living in a house.

Visiting With Joe And Nancy and Getting Ready To Move On South
Virginia Beach, VA.

Forecast = Variable clouds and becoming windy with thunderstorms, especially this morning. High 77F. Winds SSE at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 80%.
Not a whole lot to report. Jim and Linda have been visiting with Joe and Nancy almost every evening and enjoying the great meals that Nancy has prepared. Monday, Jim took one of Nora's propane tanks and had it filled at the local U-Haul. On the way, he stopped at a Pep Boy's Automotive Store and picked up some fuses for the thermostat, and on the way back, stopped at a gas station and filled Big RED's tank with that good old #2 diesel fuel.
We've really enjoyed our stay here in Virginia Beach, visiting with Joe and Nancy, but it's time to move on South. So, tomorrow morning, we'll head down into North Carolina where the plan is to stop for the night at Pierce Mobile Estates and Travel Trailer Park in Williamston to dump Nora's tanks and then continue on to Goodwin's RV Campground in Moncure, NC on Friday, where we'll stay for about a week so that Jim and Linda can visit with Mike and Gina and see grand-kids, Brenna, Savanna and Dillon.
The last few days have been overcast with rain off and on, thanks to the remnants of Hurricane Patricia, and the weather guessers are forecasting more rain for most of today and tonight. However, they're guessing that tomorrow, (Thursday), should be a nice day and should be dry and sunny, with light winds, which will be good for hooking up and traveling. :-)

Catching Up, IL to IN, IN to OH, "Campground Is Full" and OH to WV
Point Pleasant, WV

Forecast = Mainly sunny to start, then a few afternoon clouds. Scattered frost possible. High 56F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph.
We did leave Prairie Pines on Tuesday as planned in change "C" of our trip plan. After hugs and good-bye's at Paul and Louise's it was right at 10:05 when we pulled out of the Prairie Pines CG and headed South on some local roads, joining I-74 in St. Joseph, IL. Once on 74 it was just a matter of following it East over to Indy where we turned South on I-465. 465 took us around to the South side of the city and to the Lake Haven Retreat which is just a little South of the Interstate on Rt.37.
It was 12:25 when we arrived, so it took us right at 2 1/2 hours to drive the 135 miles over there.
After arriving and getting Nora set up, Jim and Linda took Big RED and headed over to Linda's cousin, Mike's house where they had a great visit and a nice meal of Popeye's chicken. Mike and his wife Sandy, seem to be doing pretty well right now. It was about 8:00 or so by the time Jim and Linda returned to the park and both of them said that they had a good time visiting.
Wednesday morning, after hooking Nora to the back of Big RED, we left the Indianapolis area, at about 10:10, (Eastern Time), and headed SE on US 74. When we got over to Cincinnati, we took I-275 around the South side of the city and picked up Rt 32 on the East side. Following 32 SE to the Batavia, OH area, brought us to the East Fork State Park. Upon pulling into the park and at the CG entrance, there was a sign with big red letters stating that the "Campground Is Full"!!!!
Now, this is a huge State Park with many, many sites, but being that they are having a Halloween Campout for the next 2 weekends, all the sites were reserved or full. After talking to the lady at the office, she suggested Jim try the Stonelick State Park which was about 15 miles North of East Fork. She gave Jim the phone number so he called over there and they had a few sites available for a couple nights. So, , , , , , , after programming the address into our GPS, we took off, following "Tillie;s" directions up there.
Now, don't ask me exactly which roads we took up there. There were 4 or 5 different Ohio routes and I have now idea what they were, but Tillie got us there and by the time we arrived we had traveled 178 miles and it was about 2:10 when pulled up to the registration office at the Stonelick State Park, near Pleasant Plains, OH. :-)
They're having a Halloween Campout at Stonelick this weekend too, but we were able to stay for 2 nights in site #42.
As you can see by the photos below, it's kind of a nice park and the fall colors are just starting to show.
I can't even begin to tell you how helpful both of the ladies at the 2 State Parks were at helping us get a site. They went out of their way to accommodate us. I doubt if they'll be reading this, but I'd like to thank them for helping us. "Thank You"!!!!
After staying at Stonelick for 2 nights, (without any Internet Signal), we left there yesterday morning at around 10:15. Again, Tillie came through and got us back on Rt. 32 heading SE. We finally came to US 35 where we turned South and followed 35 down to the Ohio River where we crossed into West Virginia. Just across the river is the town of Point Pleasant. They have a city CG called Krodel Park. It was 1:00 when we pulled into the park and we had traveled 142 miles in about 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Krodel park is OK for an overnight stay. The folks here seem very friendly and except for some kids playing over at the public playground and a train now and then, it's quiet. Most of the sites are quite close together, but the pull-through that we're in is on the end of the row, so we have quite a bit of room.

We'll be leaving here this morning to continue our journey to Virginia Beach. We'll probably stop 2 more times before arriving there on Monday.

Visiting Adeline and Starting To Get Ready To Leave Rantoul

Monday, about 11:30 AM, Big RED took Jim and Linda up to Manteno to see Jim's cousin, Adeline. She's recovering from major surgery, so the plan was to stay for only a couple hours. They arrived at her house about 1:30 and spent about 2 1/2 hours catching up on what has been going on during the last year. She seems to be doing well with her recovery but when she's recovered enough, she needs to have more surgery for knee joint replacement.
On the way back from Manteno, Jim and Linda stopped at a restaurant in Paxton, IL. to grab something to eat as it was after 5:00 by that time. The service was great, but Jim thought the food was just, OK.
Not too much else to report. Both Jim and Linda have been starting to do things to get ready to head out on Monday. Yesterday, Jim checked all the tires on Nora and Big RED, making sure they all had enough air. He and Linda have a growing list of things to do before we leave, so both of them will be fairly busy for the next 5 days.
The weather guessers on TV are saying that we should have pretty nice weather except for late Thursday and early Friday, (when they're guessing that we'll have some rain), so if they're guessing right, there should be time to get everything done without too much trouble.

Another Dr. Appointment, A New Lamp, Dinner and A Very Long Day

Tuesday morning, Jim had an eye doctor appointment to have a "field of vision" test done on his eyes. Not to worry though, he passed with flying colors!! .-)
After he was finished with his test at the doctor's office, Big RED took he and Linda over to the Staples Store where they purchased a new lamp to replace the one that had got broken on our trip back from Wisconsin, in August. They had a pretty nice selection of desk lamps and they picked out a black adjustable arm lamp that has a LED bulb. It's not near as attractive as the old one was, but it seems to work well for it's intended purpose.
After purchasing the lamp, they headed over to the LongHorn Steakhouse Restaurant which was just down the street from Staples, for Jim's birthday dinner, . Both Jim and Linda had steaks and they both said that the food was excellent.
After eating, they came back here to the CG and took naps!!! ,-)
Wednesday morning, Jim woke Linda up really early, and by 7:30 Big RED was pulling out of the CG to take them up to Wilmington, IL to see their financial adviser. Wilmington, is about 2 hours North of here so by they time they arrived, it was just about time for their 9:30 appointment. Mr. Shepherd has been advising them for many years and every year, they go over all investments and decide on any changes if necessary.
From the adviser's office, they headed still further North and went to the Big Apple Pancake House in Joliet, IL where they met Linda's sister, Nancy, her son, David and David's nurse, Victoria. After H and K, (Hugs and Kisses), they had a very nice meal with lots of conversation. When they were finished eating, Nancy led Big RED over to her new house where they enjoyed still more catching up on what has been happening during the last year.
It was about 3:30 when they left Nancy's and about 6:00 by they time they returned here to Prairie Pines. A long day, but a very good one!!! :-)

It Was A Very Good Day, Mike's Visit and Some Shopping

Wednesday was indeed a very good day, both for Linda and Jim.
It actually started Tuesday when Linda's cousin, Rick, called to wish her a Happy Birthday. Rick always calls the day before her birthday now because one time, he got the dates mixed up on his calendar, and called a couple days late. Now he always calls a day early, just to make sure he isn't late again. :-)
All through the day, Linda got calls from family and friends. Then in the afternoon, Mike, arrived and was able to stay until about 8:00 in the evening.
If you remember, Mike is Jim's son and he flew in from North Carolina to visit Linda and Jim and other family members and friends. (This photo of him was taken when we were in NC this spring.)
After Mike arrived, they visited for a short while and then Jim mentioned something about the airport here and the fact that they're going to close down the Aviation Museum over there. Mike said that he'd really like to see it, so he and Jim drove over there and spent about an hour going through it. (They could have spent more time, but by the time they got over there, the museum was only open for another hour before closing for the day). Mike really enjoyed it because he works in the aircraft industry, and is very interested in learning about the older aircraft.
After they returned, Jim, Linda and Mike took Big RED and headed over to Fisher, IL, where they went to the Blue Star Restaurant, where they had nice meals and more conversation. Then, they came back here and visited some more.
All too soon, it was time for Mike to leave, but it was sure good to see him again. Linda was especially pleased that he was able to come on her birthday.
It made the day very special. :-)

Thursday, Jim and Linda decided that they needed a few groceries, so instead of going here in town, they headed down to a Meijer Grocery store in Champaign. Normally, they would have gone to the local grocery store here in Rantoul, but lately, they've been out of or have stopped carrying some of the items that they want to purchase. They've noticed that they're many times out of sale items shortly after the sale begins and don't seem to restock those items until the sale is over.
So, even though Jim likes to buy as much as possible locally to help the local economy and the small store owners, they headed to Meijer's and found everything they wanted, and at a good price too.
After dinner, there was a knock on the door and it was Paul and Louise, (The CG hosts). Louise had a small Birthday cake and a card for Linda!!! That was really nice of them. They've really become good friends through the years. :-)
Thank you, Paul and Louise, Linda was thrilled with the cake and the card!!!
Yesterday morning, Jim took Big RED and headed over to Rural King to look for a few items. He found what he wanted then headed over to the Post Office to pick up a general delivery letter that had been sent there. Then to Walgreen's to pick up a prescription for Linda.
The afternoon was spent reading and fooling around with the computer. That is, until dinnertime when Jim fired up the grill and cooked a nice juicy steak that he and Linda had purchased at Meijer's.
It sure smelled good and by all accounts, it tasted really good too, but I wouldn't know, because I didn't get any!!! :-(

Wednesday was indeed a very good day, both for Linda and Jim.
It actually started Tuesday when Linda's cousin, Rick, called to wish her a Happy Birthday. Rick always calls the day before her birthday now because one time, he got the dates mixed up on his calendar, and called a couple days late. Now he always calls a day early, just to make sure he isn't late again. :-)
All through the day, Linda got calls from family and friends. Then in the afternoon, Mike, arrived and was able to stay until about 8:00 in the evening.

Final Days At The Rally and NC To TN
Unicoi, TN.

Forecast = Mostly cloudy skies early then heavy thunderstorms developing this afternoon. High 78F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall near an inch.
Well, the Rally is over!!! :-( I think everyone had a good time and even though it was longer than most RV-Dreams Rallies, the time just flew by and soon it was time for H and H, (Hugs and Handshakes).
The last few days there weren't as many "scheduled" activities so that gave people time to go do some sightseeing or whatever they wanted, before they left the area. There was a Continental Breakfast Saturday morning and a mobile technician answered some RV repair questions afterwords.
Then, for dinner there was a Luau where a the menu consisted of a whole roasted pig and all kinds of side dishes. After the dinner, some of the RV-Dreamers played games both in the pavilion and outside. It sounded like they were all having a lot of fun!! ;-)

Sunday morning there was a farewell, full breakfast followed by final words from Howard and Linda. Then, it was time for everyone to say good-by until next time. :-(
All in all, it was a great rally and I think that the folks in attendance convinced Howard and Linda to have another Reunion Rally in the future.
After the breakfast, final words, and H and H, most everyone started packing up and hitching up their RVs. Before long, they were pulling out of the RV Park and heading in all different directions. We weren't in a hurry because Jim had called ahead and reserved a site here at the Woodsmoke Campground here in Unicoi, which our GPS showed to be only about 85 miles from the Park.
So, after slowly packing up and hitching Nora to the back of Big RED, we left the park in Marion about 11:05 and headed SW on US 70. 70 brought us to Old Fort, NC where we turned West on I-40. 40 brought us over to Asheville where we tuned off on I-240 and followed it around to the North side of the city, where we turned North on US-23/I-26.
Parts of this road are Interstate and parts are not, so some places it's called US-23 and other places it's called I-26.
Anyway, we followed US-23 up into the mountains, into TN and here to the campground in Unicoi, traveling 87 miles and arriving right at 20 minutes before 1:00.
We stopped here at this CG once before and Jim and Linda really liked it here.
It's probably not a good CG for large RVs although the last time we were here we had Myrddin and he was 40' long. I do remember having trouble getting around some of the corners in the CG though.
Since we were last here, they've built some neat little covered decks at some of the sites, and improved the electric with 50 amp circuits.
This CG is real close to having all the "it factors" that we like in a CG or Park. I sure wish it was on a route that we traveled more frequently, we'd probably stop here every time we came through the area and even stay for awhile.
Jim had originally reserved a site for only one night, but once here, he and Linda decided to stay another night.
That's fine with me. ;-)

Last Days In Forest City
Forest City, NC

Our time here in Forest City is coming to an end. It's been really great seeing Roland and Louise again, and once again, the visit has gone by too quickly. There's been a lot of visiting and renewing of their friendships, some great meals that Louise put together and a nice meal at a local Seafood Restaurant yesterday evening.
I don't think that there's anything special planned for today, probably just more visiting. Roland talked about maybe going to a Harbor Freight store, but no specific plans were made.
Oh!! Jim took a few photos yesterday.
This first one is of a view from the road. That large roll up door used to be where Roland and Louise's motor home, "Big Herb" used to stay during the summer when in this area. I miss Big Herb, but he now lives with a very nice couple who are able to full-time and I'm sure he's happier than he was sitting in a storage lot or in this garage most of the year, since Roland and Louise can't travel much anymore.
This photo was taken looking towards the North from the driveway. Can you see those mountains in the center of the photo? (You can click on the photo to enlarge it to see it better). Up there somewhere is where we'll be going to the rally. :-)
As much as Jim and Linda have enjoyed visiting with Roland and Louise, they're really getting excited about heading to the RV-Dreams Rally in Marion, NC. Jim checked the GPS and it looks like it's only about 35 or so miles up there and the little gal, "Tilly", that lives inside of the GPS is telling him that it should take less than an hour to get up there.
Tomorrow morning, (Friday), we'll be leaving here and heading up there. We'll probably be getting there somewhere between 10:30 and 11:30.

Final Visit With Mike And His Family and Moncure To Forest City

After heading up to Pittsboro to get groceries in the afternoon, Jim and Linda had a nice visit with Mike and his family Friday evening. Saturday nothing much happened except that Jim and Linda did start getting some things put away in preparation for out departure Monday morning. Sunday, a little before 11:00 they headed over to Mike and Gina's house for their last visit with them.
After eating a light lunch, Jim got out his camera and was able to get everyone together to get this shot of Mike and his family.

About 2:30, after lots of h and k, (hugs and kisses), Jim and Linda left Mike and Gina's and headed back to the CG. On the way, they stopped and bought Big RED a nice drink of that good old #2 diesel fuel. Once back at the CG they continued getting ready for our Monday morning departure,
Yesterday morning, (Monday), we left Goodwin's CG about 5 minutes before 10:00 and headed for Forest City. We took the Moncure - Pittsboro Road up to Pittsboro where we turned West on US 64. 64 took us through Asheboro and then up to the little town of Holly Grove where we turned SW on I-85. 85 then brought us down through Charlotte and Gastonia and to Kings Mountain, where we turned off of I-85 and onto westbound US 74, 74 Then brought us through Shelby and finally to Forest City and Roland and Louise's house which is just a little NW of the city.
It was about 20 minutes before 2:00 when we arrived, so it took us about 3 hours and 45 minutes to travel the 210 miles over here. Not too shabby considering that part of the roads over here were 2 lane and we had to go through quite a few small towns and cities.
For the most part, all the roads were good. There was a short section of I-85 through Charlotte that was kind of rough, but not too bad. There were a couple of construction zones, but none that delayed us for any length of time.
After getting Nora positioned, set up and plugged in so that the A/C could be turned on, Jim and Linda spent most of the afternoon inside of the house visiting with Roland and Louise.
For dinner, Louise made some great "Southern Style" BBQ pulled pork for sandwiches and then there was more visiting until around 9:30 when Jim and Linda came out here for the night.
Don't really know what the plans are for today. I do know that Roland has a dentist appointment this afternoon to have a tooth looked at that is giving him a lot of grief. :-( We're all hoping that the dentist can get it fixed without too much trouble or discomfort for Roland.
Did you know that Forest City was originally incorporated in 1877 as Burnt Chimney? The name changed to Forest City in 1887.

Final Plans Made To See Roland And Louise Before Rally

As most of you know, we're heading to an RV-Dreams Reunion Rally in Marion, NC. But, before we go there, we've been planning on stopping by Roland and Louise's place in Forest City, NC. Well, yesterday Jim called Roland and final plans were made to head there on Monday and stay until Friday morning, when we'll head up to the Rally, which is just a little North of Roland and Louise's house.
Jim and Linda are excited about seeing Roland and Louise again. They only got to see them a little this past winter, down in Florida, so are looking forward to spending some quality time with them now.
The past days have been spent just doing normal things during the days and then going to Mike and Gina's in the evenings. There have been a few evenings when they've had other things to do, and it sounds like Saturday is all tied up for them, but we're hoping that Sunday, they can either come out here again or we can spend some time with them at their house.
Yesterday, Jim and Linda took Big RED and went to a Target Store and purchased some items for an embroidery project that Linda has planned. Can You Believe?

Can you believe that we've been here in Virginia Beach for 10 days already? Me neither!!! The time has flown by and Jim and Linda have been busy visiting with Joe, Nancy and Amber every evening and even during the days on days that they've had time.
Nancy has made some great meals and Jim and Linda have probably eaten too much at times. :-) The weather has been pretty nice with temperatures in the upper 70's to mid 80's most days and the lows at night have usually been in the 50's.
We've had a great visit, but all good things must come to an end, and today, we'll be leaving here and heading back to Williamston NC for 1 night to dump tanks and regroup, and then to the Raleigh area tomorrow. Actually, Mike, Gina and family live in Apex, NC and we'll be going to Moncure, NC where the RV Park is that we'll be staying at. Both cities are SW of Raleigh.
Speaking of RV parks, Jim called Marc Goodwin at Goodwin's RV Campground, (one of their favorite parks in the area), and found out that 2 RVers had just left so he has those sites available. Goodwin's is a very small campground, 20 sites), and is popular with fishermen who fish at Jordan Lake, nearby, and also with workers who come to the area to work on different projects, so it's pretty hard to get a site there.
We'll be staying there for 10 days also, before heading further West to see friends near Forest City and attend the RV-Dreams Reunion Rally up in Marion, NC.

Relaxing, Visiting, and Some Nasty Weather

Not much to report, but I thought I'd check in so you knew that I was still kicking!! ;-)
The last 4 days have been spent relaxing and visiting with Joe, Nancy and Amber when they weren't working or going to school. They've mostly spent time with them in the evenings, although some days Joe works from home, so he wanders out here to visit for a little while if he isn't busy. They've eaten some meals with them, but not every evening as sometimes Nancy doesn't get home from work until late.
It's rained here the last 2 days. Yesterday was especially nasty with heavy rain, temperatures around 50 and 20 to 25 mph winds with up to 35 mph gusts!!! There was a front move through the area last night though, and except for temperatures in the 60's today, they're forecasting great weather with highs in the mid to upper 70's, no rain and lots of sunshine for the whole next week. ;-)

Not much to report, but I thought I'd check in so you knew that I was still kicking!! ;-)
The last 4 days have been spent relaxing and visiting with Joe, Nancy and Amber when they weren't working or going to school. They've mostly spent time with them in the evenings, although some days Joe works from home, so he wanders out here to visit for a little while if he isn't busy. They've eaten some meals with them, but not every evening as sometimes Nancy doesn't get home from work until late.
It's rained here the last 2 days. Yesterday was especially nasty with heavy rain, temperatures around 50 and 20 to 25 mph winds with up to 35 mph gusts!!! There was a front move through the area last night though, and except for temperatures in the 60's today, they're forecasting great weather with highs in the mid to upper 70's, no rain and lots of sunshine for the whole next week. ;-)

Callahan FL to Statesboro GA
Statesboro, GA.

Forecast = Thunderstorms likely. A few storms may be severe. High around 80F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 100%.
Friday evening, a little after 6:00, Ashley called and said that she and Anna were on their way and they thought it would take them about 45 minutes to get to the Cedar River Seafood Restaurant in Callahan. So, about 20 minutes later, Jim and Linda hopped into Big RED and headed into town.
They knew that they had plenty time, so the headed to the BP station and bought Big RED a nice drink of that good old #2 diesel fuel. :-) From there, they headed to the restaurant where they got a booth and waited for Ashley and Anna to arrive.
In a little while, they arrived and everyone enjoyed a nice meal and really great conversation.
It was almost 8:00 by the time Big RED brought them back to the CG. The rest of the evening was spent watching TV and reading.
Yesterday morning, we left Kelly's Countryside RV Park about 10 minutes after 10:00 and turned North on US 301. In just a few miles, we crossed the state line into Georgia. We stayed on US 301 the whole way, passing through Folkston, Nahunta, Jesup, Glenville, and a few other small town before arriving here at the Parkwood RV Park & Cottages on the South edge of Statesboro, GA.
It was 12:50 when we pulled int the park, so it took us about 2 hours and 40 minutes to travel the 141 miles up here.
301 is a good road with very little traffic and we made excellent time. This section is mostly 2 lane with probably 25% of it being 4 lane. We had some light rain on the way, but nothing serious. By the time we arrived in Statesboro, the sun was shining though, so Jim didn't get wet setting the trailer up when we got here. ;-) We'll be staying here for 2 nights, and it's probably for the best since it's supposed to rain most of today.
This is a very well maintained park with fairly wide, long, pull-through sites. The last time we were here was way back in 2006, but it hasn't changed much. The people in the office are friendly and there's free cable and wi-fi, both which seem to work quite well. I wish Jim would have taken some photos yesterday so I could have posted them here, but if you're interested, there are some photos on the parks web site that are quite accurate.
I don't expect much to happen today, with the forecasted weather. This afternoon, Jim will probably watch the NASCAR race on TV. Hopefully by tomorrow, this weather will have passed and we'll have good conditions to continue on.

Grown-ups In A Candy Store and A Visit With Very Good Friends

As planned, Jim and Linda took Big RED and headed over to Wildwood yesterday morning. They left about 10:15 and by 11:35 they were pulling up in front of the Russell Stover Candies Store on the West side of town.
They spent about 1/2 hour wandering around in the store, buying sugar free candy for Linda, before heading further West to look for a place to eat, out by I-75. Most of the restaurants were very crowded and they finally settled on the Waffle House where there just happened to a few parking places near the entrance.
After a tasty meal, they headed over to Donna and Monte's house, arriving there a little after 1:00.
They have a very nice double-wind located on a small lake.

After H and H, (Hugs and Handshakes), they all sat at the kitchen table and talked and talked, catching up on what has been happening in their lives since they last saw one another.
Both Jim and Linda said that it was sure good to see Donna and Monte again and visit with them. In fact it was about 4:30 before they left and traveled the hour and a half back here to DeBary, arriving back home about 6:00 pm.
Both Jim and Linda were tired by the time they returned, but it was a very good day, visiting with very good friends.

Wild Hog Cookout and 30

Last Thursday evening, Jim and Linda decided that they wanted to go out to eat someplace. Neither of them wanted a big meal, so they headed for Arby's cause they had a bunch of coupons from there. On the way, they stopped at a gas station and bought Big RED a nice big drink of that good old #2 diesel fuel.
Nothing much happened Friday or Saturday, but Sunday, Jim and Linda took Big RED and headed for Frostproof, FL. where Roland and Louise spend the winters in their double-wide home. I don't know if you remember or not, but a couple weeks ago, Roland called and invited them to come down there for a "wild hog cookout", and Sunday was the day they were having it.
Roland said that they'd be eating about 2:30, but for Jim and Linda to come early if they could, so about 11;30, they loaded their lawn chairs and a desert that Linda had made into Big RED and headed down there. It's about 95 miles from here to Frostproof, and about the only way to go is to follow I-4 down through Orlando and past the "Attraction" to US 27, and then take 27, with all it's stop lights, down to Frostproof.
The trip took Big RED about an hour and 45 minutes. He said that at times they were traveling close to 70 mph and at other times just crawling along while on I-4. One on US 27 he said that he had to stop frequently at the many stop lights along that route.
The "wild hog cookout turned out to be a huge success!! All the food was placed on tables inside of a Florida Room in the house next to Roland and Louise's.
Oh! Oh! I'd better stop and explain here that Roland and 3 other friends from the park, (one of them who lives in the home next to them), went hog hunting awhile back. The got 3 hogs and so after butchering, they had lots of meat. So, they all cooked some of their meat in their own homes and brought it to Roland's neighbor's home where it was set out on the tables in the Florida Room along with all the dishes that other people brought. (this was a potluck type meal).
So, with the food all placed on the tables, and other tables set up in the car ports of that house and the house across the street, people started arriving and soon there were people everywhere sitting talking and waiting for the time when they could sample the wild hog cooked in 3 or 4 different ways.

You can also see the tables set up in the car port where about 1/2 of the 110 people that were friends or from the park would eat their meals after they filled their plates.

While they were eating a group of 5 folks from the park entertained everyone with harmonica music.

A Little Busier and Visiting With Glenn, Jeanette, Laura and Lindsey

It's been a little more busy around here since my last post. Thursday evening, Jim and Linda decided that they wanted Pizza for dinner, so Linda called, (Who else)? Gentile's Pizza and ordered a medium pizza for Jim to pick up. The pizza was ready by the time Jim got to the pizza place and in no time he was backing Big RED back into the car port. :-)
Also on Thursday, Laura called and asked Linda if she'd like to go to see the latest Hobbit movie ( The Battle Of The 5 Armies), that was playing down in Sanford? Linda said that she'd like to see it, so Friday afternoon, Laura swung by, picked Linda up and they headed over there.
Linda said that she and Laura really enjoyed it, and by about 5;00 or so, Laura was dropping Linda back off here at the house.
Saturday was spent sprucing up the house in anticipation of Glenn and Jeanette coming on Sunday. You know, things like cleaning the bathrooms, straightening things up, dusting and vacuuming.
Sunday, Linda got up early, (about 7:00 AM), and put all the ingredients in the crock pot for the pot roast dinner she had planned. After getting it all together and turned on, she laid back down on the bed and slept some more. I always like it when Linda makes a pot roast, it always smells s o o o o o good! ;-)
The weather was just about perfect for Glenn and Jeanette's visit yesterday, with temps in the middle 70's, lots of sunshine and light winds. Much better than the close to 0 and below temps they've had up in Wisconsin this winter. When Glenn and Jeanette arrived about 3:00 they commented about how great the weather was. :-) Then, after h and h, (hugs and handshakes), and a tour of the house, everyone visited and caught up on what's been happening since they had seen each other, back in July of 2013.
Laura and Lindsey arrived around 4;00 and after more h and h, everyone visited some more.

The meal went off without a hitch and everyone seemed to really enjoy the dinner Linda prepared. After eating and getting everything cleaned up, there was more visiting until around 8:00. Glenn and Jeanette were tired after a long day and Laura and Lindsey headed home because Lindsey has to get up real early to go to work over by Daytona Beach this morning.
After everyone left, Linda and Jim cleaned up and moved the table back next to the wall. Then they watched TV and fooled around with the computers until bedtime.
It was a very good day, and Linda and Jim really enjoyed seeing Glenn and Jeanette again and having them and Laura and Lindsey over for dinner and to visit.. If everything works out, we may be able to see them again this summer, on our way back from Oregon. ;-)

Good News and A Delivery

Forecast = A mix of clouds and sun this morning followed by mostly cloudy skies and a few showers this afternoon. Thunder possible. High 76F. Winds N at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%.
Had some good news yesterday. Linda had an appointment with Dr. Barnard, (her retina specialist, down here in FL). She was dreading going because she was sure that he would be giving her another one of those eye injections. Well, after checking and doing an eye scan, he determined that the last injection had taken care of the problem and her eyes were "stable". :-)
So, another appointment was made for the 23rd of February, when he will preform another scan to see if the eyes are "still stable".
Needless to say, Linda was thrilled!!!
I haven't posted lately because there really hasn't been anything to post about. Just everyday living.
One day, Jim and Linda went to Walgreen's, another day, Jim went grocery shopping at Winn Dixie, Saturday evening, they went to Gram's Kitchen for dinner and yesterday, after Linda's appointment with Dr. Barnard, they went to the 4 B's Restaurant where they both had nice meals off of the special's board. (Jim had flounder and Linda had Swiss steak).
Here at home, Linda has been working on her Family Tree program and catching up on paperwork and filing, some that was from a year ago that didn't get done while she was going through the cancer treatments. Jim has been helping when he could and going through some boxes and drawers that hadn't been sorted since we moved into the house.
Oh, and Saturday, the UPS delivery man brought a big box to the door!!! It was pretty heavy and when Jim met him at the door, he helped Jim set the box inside of the Florida room, which runs across the front of the house.
Soon after the UPS man left, Jim opened the box and I found out that it was a glider that he and Linda had ordered online.
Awhile back, Linda had said that she was wondering if anyone still made gliders because she thought it would be nice to have one out in the Florida room to sit on. Jim did a little research and found some. So, , , , they picked out the one they liked and ordered it. :-)
It's kind of like a swing, but instead of hanging from the ceiling, it has a platform that sits on the floor and it glides back and forth on it.
It came partially disassembled but it wasn't too hard to put it together, and soon Jim and Linda were gliding back and forth. :-) Both of them said that they liked it and have been enjoying it ever since.
Did you know that in the southern United States, porch gliders were referred to as divans? Especially popular was the "basket weave" pattern in the hot non- air conditioned South of the 1950s and 1960s.

We pulled out of Kelly's Countryside RV Park at about 10:15 and continued South on US 301 to Callahan. There, 301 turned SW and we followed US 1 on down to I-295, which took us around the SW side of Jacksonville. South of the city, we turned South on US 17 and that brought us all the way down here to DeBary and the Highbanks Marina & Camp Resort.
We stopped briefly for a "pit stop" but other than that, it was pretty smooth going all the way. It was 150 miles down here and even with the stop and the fairly heavy traffic when we first turned off of 395 and onto US 17, we still made it in only 3 hours and 10 minutes.
Jim didn't care for the site that they had chosen to put us on, so he talked to the manager and was able to persuade him to switch us to a different site that was a little better. It's still not the "ideal" site, but being that we won't be spending a real lot of time here at the park, it'll suffice.
Jim paid for 1 month here with the option to keep Nora here for the whole season if he and Linda decided that they want to. That's still to be decided though, they may want to look at a different park, put Nora in storage, or keep her here, so that they can come here to "camp out" whenever they want.
Which is what they were thinking of doing when they reserved a site here.
By the time Nora was in the site and set up, Jim was pretty tired and then Laura and Lindsey came over to welcome us back here, so he and Linda didn't even go over to the house. Instead, they decided to go to Arby's to get a sandwich and then just come back here, relax and spend one more night in Nora.
This morning, they'll head over to the house, unload the back of Big RED and then come back here and start loading things up that they'll need at the house. Eventually, they'd like to have doubles of many if the items so that they don't have to move a lot of stuff back and forth every time they want to spend a few nights here at the park.
So, how long will be be down here in Florida? Well, the plan, which is written in pencil, (and Jim still has that big eraser), is that we'll be here until the middle of April. Then we'll start heading North again, probably going to see the boys again in Virginia and North Carolina before heading to a RV-Dreams Family Reunion Rally in Marion, NC the end of May.

SC To FL and Dinner With Anna
Callahan, FL.
38 deg. partly cloudy, NW wind @ 10 mph.
Forecast = Some clouds this morning will give way to generally sunny skies for the afternoon. High 51F. Winds NNW at 15 to 25 mph.
We left "The Oaks" in Yemassee, SC about 10:05 and headed back to US 17. Right across the highway was a gas station that sold diesel, so Jim pulled Big RED and Nora up to the pumps and filled Big RED's tank. Once that little chore was done, we took 17 for just a little way and then turned South on I-95.
95 took us down to Georgia, where we turned off on US 17 again, just South of Savannah. We took 17 to GA 196 and then took 196 to Macintosh where we turned NW on US 84. Following 84 brought us to Jesup, GA. where we turned South on US 301. 301 brought us down into Florida and to Kelly's Countryside RV Park, which is about 6 miles North of Callahan.
It was 1:50 when we pulled up in front of the office. We had traveled 180 miles, stopped for diesel and then stopped to pick up a few groceries at the Winn Dixie Grocery Store in Hilliard FL. (about 4 miles North of the Park), in 3 hours and 45 minutes.
Not too shabby! ;-)
There was no one in the office when we arrived, but a very nice young lady, who I found out was the owner's grand daughter, told Jim about some pull-through sites that were available towards the rear of the park. She said that we could pay for the site later. :-)
Following her instructions, we headed down the road.
Soon Jim had Big RED and Nora parked in a nice level site.
The sites back here aren't very wide, but they're plenty long for even the longest trailer.
Kelly's is a family owned and operated RV Park and they're supper nice people. We've been coming here for years and always feel welcome every time we come. The park is very well maintained and I can't ever remember being here when the grass needed mowing or the bushes needed trimming.
Once Nora was set up and Jim and Linda had relaxed a little, Linda called their grand daughter, Anna, who lives in Jacksonville to ask her if she'd like to come to Callahan and go out to eat? She said that she would and arrangements were made to meet her at the Cedar River Seafood Restaurant.
Jim and Linda met Anna at the restaurant at about 5:30 and it sounds like everyone had a good time visiting and eating some delicious seafood and chicken. (Anna doesn't like seafood).
Both Linda and Jim said that it was really good to see Anna again and they're looking forward to seeing her again Thanksgiving Day in DeBary. :-)
Yesterday morning, Jim dumped Nora's tanks and then took Big RED up to Hilliard and bought him another drink of good old #2 diesel fuel. Then, in the afternoon, we had some serious storms go through the area. There were reports of tornadoes SW of here and there was quite a bit of damage in Jacksonville, which is about 15 or 20 miles South of here. We had some wind and lots of heavy rain, but no damage in this area that I know of.
Yesterday, the temperatures were in the upper 70's but today, they're saying that it'll only be getting up to about 50. That's OK though because today we'll be heading down to DeBary where it'll be a little warmer with forecasts in the mid to upper 50's.
I've got real mixed feelings about getting back to DeBary. I've kind of missed the house and all the room I have to roam around. I've missed Laura and Lindsey and it'll be kind of nice not having to get ready to move almost every day. But, I'll really miss being out on the road, seeing new sites, experiencing new places and meeting new people. And I never get bored when we're traveling, because there's always something happening.
Oh well, maybe a little R and R will do me good. And then, there is that cute little white dog with the pink collar that comes past the house just about every day. ;-)
