The First Day Of Autumn

DeBary, FL.

74 deg. clear, no wind.
Forecast = Partly cloudy with a chance of a thunderstorm and a chance of rain. High of 88F. Winds from the SW at 5 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 50%.

Ahhhh!!!! The first day of Autumn!!!! Cool temperatures, clear skies, leaves turning beautiful colors and a nip in the air.

Not in Florida!!!!!

Whoever decided that autumn starts on this date, definitely wasn't from Florida!!! The long range forecast for DeBary, for the next 10 days is for temperatures in the upper 80's to low 90's for every day, at least a 40% chance of T-storms for at least 1/2 of the ten days, and humidities ranging from 47% to as high as 98% with most of them in the upper range of that spread. As for leaves changing colors and drifting through the air, I don't think that's going to happen either.

And, that nip in the air? That won't happen for quite awhile yet.

You know, I've always said that "there ain't no 10's"!!! While the summers down here are hot, humid and  almost unbearable at times, the winters are much more enjoyable. While it's snowing and blowing up North this winter, people down here will be running around in short sleeve shirts and going to the beach.

So, I guess it evens out. I really think I'm going to miss the changing of the leaves this year though. :-(

Did you know that the word autumn comes from the Old French word autompne?  There are rare examples of its use as early as the 12th century, but it became common by the 16th century.

Woof!!!
