Haven't posted because there really hasn't been anything of importance to post about. Oh, Jim and Linda have been doing the normal things like going to the store, going out to eat, bringing Chinese food back here to eat, and Jim had cooked a couple of times on the grill, (brats and hamburgers).
The CG was pretty busy this last weekend. There were lots of kids and I think it was because for many, it will be one of the last weekends that they have before schools open this year.
Yesterday some of the people who are going to the Farm Show started coming into the park already. In fact there are already 2 RVs parked on a site near us and there are 2 RVs in the dry camping area along the side street of the park. Then, there's the flatbed trailer that had a 50's vintage grain truck on it, that came through the park yesterday afternoon. and a couple of other trailers already parked in the CG at various sites.
The Farm Show starts on Thursday so by Wednesday, I expect the CG to be full of RVs. Many of the RVers will bring golf carts and ATVs to use to go over to the show with. There will be miscellaneous trailers that were used to bring the golf carts and ATVs as well as equipment, (farm tractors, planters, plows pickers and other farm related items), parked at the back of some of the sites.
I don't know if you've had a chance to look at the Half Century of Progress Farm Show web site, but if you're at all interested in farming and especially older equipment, take a look at the site. The photos that are scrolling across the top of the screen are typical of the activities that they'll have, and there's more photos to be seen in the Gallery section.
Tomorrow morning, Jim and Linda will be taking CLT and heading up to Naperville, IL. to see Linda's sister, Nancy and her son David. They'll be leaving early because it's around 125 miles up there, they'll want to spend some time visiting, and then they'll drive the 125 miles back here, making it a pretty long day. Besides the distance, once they get North of I-80, the traffic will probably be really heavy, and you can never be sure of how long it will take.
Wednesday morning, Linda has an appointment to see her doctor in Fisher, IL. (about 13 miles from here). She has to have blood drawn, so she won't be able to eat breakfast before they go. That'll mean that they'll probably go to the Village Garden Restaurant in Fisher when she's done with her appointment. Then, they'll come back here and watch all the RVs come into the CG. ;-)

You Don't Have To Wear Shorts

This post is for the men and women out there that think that just because they're "Camping", they have to wear shorts.
You've seen it in CGs. The guy or gal with the lily white legs walking around with their new shorts on, looking very self-conscious. Have you ever asked yourself, "Why are they wearing shorts now, when evidently they never do at any other time"?
Some people seem to think that because they are "camping", and other people are wearing them they also have to wear shorts.
Not the case!!!!
If you like shorts, by all means wear them. The people that I'm talking about are the ones that wouldn't be caught dead in shorts at any other place than the CG. Why on earth would you wear them in a place where there are lots of bugs to bite your legs, strong sunshine to burn them and lots of people sitting around in their lawn chairs, watching you be uncomfortable with what you're wearing?
In the case of the guys, I think that sometimes the wife has bought the husband a pair of shorts and suggested that he should wear them to go camping this weekend because they will be "nice and cool". Well, let me tell you, the husband is not feeling cool if he's not comfortable with the way he looks, those bugs are biting him or his legs are getting sunburned!!!!
And the ladies. Just because your friend, "Martha" is wearing shorts this weekend, doesn't mean that you have to. I saw a lady at a CG that had lily white legs and during their whole stay, she had a sweatshirt type jacket tied around her waist, partially covering her legs, even though it was quite hot.
My point is, wear what you're comfortable in. If you feel comfortable in long pants wear them. If shorts are your thing, wear them!!! Don't be influenced by others, and, just because you're camping, you don't have to wear shorts!!!!
Did you know that in much of Europe and North America during the 19th and early 20th centuries shorts were worn as outerwear only by young boys until they reached a certain height or maturity. When boys got older, typically around puberty, they would receive their first pair of long trousers. This produced the perception that shorts were only for young boys. Because of this, men would not wear shorts to avoid looking immature. Women tended not to wear shorts in most cultures, due to social mores, because they were expected to wear dresses, or skirts and blouses.

Empty Shelves, Groceries and Getting Ready For The Farm Show

Sunday, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to the Walgreen's store here in Rantoul. They both needed a few items and Jim needed to get his prescription refilled. Since Walgreen's has a few groceries, they had planned on picking up some bread and milk, (that they were completely out of), while they were there, but for some reason, there was no bread on the shelf, so they just bought the milk.
No problem, right?? They would just stop at a convenience store on their way back here to the CG.
But, , , , , at the first convenience store that they went to, no bread on the shelf!!!! Ok, there's another store just down the street, so they went there.
Guess what???? The shelf was empty!!!!!
Wait!!! Wait!!!! What's that behind some other merchandise on the shelf???? 1 loaf of bread!!!!
Yep!! One lonely loaf of bread that got pushed back behind some other items, and, it was even the kind of bread that Jim was looking for!!!! :-) Don't know why all the bread was gone, usually it's not a problem.
Monday, was grocery shopping day, so Jim and Linda headed over to the County Market store and did their thing. Again, they bought more than they should have, but were finally able to get everything stored in the cabinets and fridge.
Yesterday, Jim went over to the office and talked to Louise for awhile. She's trying to get everything ready for the Half Century of Progress Farm Show that will begin a week from tomorrow. The show is held every 2 years and is a really big deal here in Rantoul. There will be thousands of people attending, this CG has been sold out for months, and in fact, many of the sites will have 2 RVs on them. (One plugged into the 30 amp electric and the other one plugged into the 50 amp outlet). They will put "Y" connectors on the water connections and take turns sharing the sewer connection. There will also be many, many RVs dry camping, on the road behind our site and the adjoining road.
The show doesn't start until next Thursday, but some of the RVs will start rolling in here on Monday. Oh!!! And if you look on your calendar, you'll notice that the weekend after the Farm Show is Labor Day weekend, and I'm pretty sure that the CG is completely sold out for that weekend also!!!
It's going to be a busy couple weeks around here!!!!
Later yesterday, Jim took CLT and headed over to Rural King to pick up a few items and then headed over to Thomasboro and picked up the mail. Then, for dinner, he cooked a couple hamburgers out on the grill.

A Few Photos and A Leveler Report

Jim took a few photos of our site yesterday morning. In these photos, you'll see that Bobbie T is in the sun, but you have to remember that when these photos were taken, it was about 8:00 AM, she's facing East and those big trees on the awning side of her give shade for the hottest part of the day as they're on the South.

Like I said yesterday, I think we'll like this site. (I know I do already). We had shade almost all afternoon, and Bobbie T's air conditioner didn't have to struggle at all, even though the temperatures got up into the middle 80's and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.
Not a whole lot happened around here yesterday. Jim went down to the other end of the park, where we were parked before, and talked to Ron for awhile. Then in the afternoon, he watched some of the NASCAR Nationwide race on TV before going outside and removing the tow bar from the front of CLT and stowing it under Bobbie T.
Then, he talked to an RVer named Bob for a while. He and his wife, Linda, are just here for the weekend and will be leaving here today.
For dinner, Linda made BLT sandwiches and cooked some of that great sweet corn that Jim and Linda bought from Mark's Produce up near Baraboo. Then they watched British Comedies on PBS until bedtime.
Since we're back in Rantoul now and it's been a month since they were installed, I thought I'd give you a report on the Big Foot Levelers that Jim and Linda had installed on Bobbie T.
So far, they have worked flawlessly. They're easy to use, even though Jim and Linda bought the manual system, the large pads have been great on soft surfaces, (no need for boards under the jacks), and they have been able to level Bobbie T even when we were in sites that were quite slanted.
And, they're so much easier to use than trying to level by driving up on boards, plus, we don't have to carry all those boards around anymore. ;-)
Don't know of anything exciting happening today, but if anything happens, I'll be sure to let you know tomorrow. ;-)

Utica to Rantoul and A Different Site

We actually left the Hickory Hollow CG a little earlier than planned, (about 9:40), and headed back to I-39. Following 39 South brought us to the Bloomington/Normal area where I-39 ended and we picked up I-74. I-74 took us in a Southeasterly direction until we came to exit #152, (just a little past Le Roy, IL), where we turned East on US 136. 136 then brought us back here to Rantoul.
Once in town, Jim pulled Bobbie T into a Casey's Gas Station and bought her a drink of 87 octane to top off her tank, and then we proceeded to the South side of Rantoul and here to the Prairie Pines CG.
When we got back to the CG, I wasn't surprised that we didn't pull back into site #7, even though it was empty. You see, I knew before we left here that Jim and Louise had talked about us moving to a different site when we returned and that he and Linda had looked at a site more towards the rear of the CG.
So, when we pulled up to the stop sign in front of the office Jim went inside to talk to Louise and Paul. Soon, Paul and Jim came out and then Paul got on his ATV and led us to site #33 which will be our site for the next month or so.
I think I'm going to like site 33. It's towards the rear of the park so you don't hear the noise from the traffic on the road going past the CG, it has a couple nice trees for shade and while we were gone, Louise had some crushed blacktop material brought into the site, so that it won't be muddy when it rains.

Oh!!! By the way, it was 12:05 when we arrived here at Prairie Pines, so we were on the road for 2 hours and 25 minutes and traveled 121 miles.
For dinner, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to the Family Table restaurant and then came back here and watched TV until bedtime.

Wanta-do List Completed and Baraboo To Utica, IL
This is the 3rd and final post from the period of time that we were at a campground near Baraboo, WI. as well as today's post.

Baraboo, WI. 08-08-13

After Linda woke up and finished her breakfast, she and Jim took CLT and headed back down to Baraboo to do a little banking at the Wells Fargo bank. Then, after taking care of that little chore, they headed to Reedsburg, WI.
The reason for going to Reedsburg was to go to the Liberty Flag Company to purchase some decent small American flags to use in the flag holder that Jim sticks on Bobbie T. But, when they got over to where the store/factory used to be, it was gone!!! :-O
After thinking that they had just missed it, and backtracking, Jim pulled into an auto parts store and asked if they knew what had happened to the store. Come to find out, they had moved to a new location in downtown Reedsburg, so they gave Jim instructions to the new location. :-)
Liberty Flag has just about everything you could ever want in the way of flags, banners and accessories and they also carry a large selection of decorative and LED lights.
The nice lady at the store helped Jim find what he was looking for and while he was there, he also found a really neat adjustable flag mount to put on the house in Florida, so that he can fly his large flag when we’re down there.
From Reedsburg, CLT took them to Lake Delton, and to the Market Square Cheese Store where they bought quite a bit of cheese and a couple hand dipped ice cream cones to enjoy while sitting at the little tables outside of the store. ;-)
From Lake Delton, they headed back here and rested for awhile.
For dinner, Jim cooked a small ham steak on the grill and Linda cooked some sweet corn-on-the-cob that they had purchased at Mark’s Produce the day before.
We've had a very nice stay here in the Wisconsin Dells area. The weather co-operated nicely and Jim and Linda finished their “Wanta-do list”. ;-)
Today, we’ll head down to Utica IL., where there’s another Passport America Park that we’ll stay at tonight. Then, on Friday, we’ll head back to Rantoul.

Yesterday, 8-8-13, we left the Fox Hill RV Park and CG near Baraboo, about 9:55 and headed towards I-90/94/39. Once on the Interstate, we headed South and followed it all the way down to Beloit, WI where Jim pulled Bobbie T into a gas station and filled her up with 87 octane.
You see, gasoline is quite a bit cheaper in Wisconsin than it is in Illinois, so by getting fuel just before we crossed into Illinois, Jim and Linda were able to save the most.
At Rockford, IL. I-39 headed West for a short distance before turning back South and bringing us down here to Utica, IL and the Hickory Hollow Campground. This is also a Passport America Park and they will only give the discount for 2 days and not on the weekends, but if you're just traveling though the area, and you're here at the right time of the week, it's a good deal.
It was 1:30 when we pulled up in front of the office, so we traveled 185 miles in 3 hours and 35 minutes, and that includes the stop for Bobbie T's drink.
The park is OK, nothing fancy. They do have a nice swimming pool and a playground that the kids seem to enjoy, and in some areas, there's quite a bit of shade. Most of the sites are pretty level and I think that all sites have 50 amp electric.
As you can see, the roads and sites are gravel and everything in the park seems to be very well maintained. At the Passport America rate of $18.50, it's worth a short stop if traveling on I-39 or I-80.
Today we'll head down to Rantoul, where we'll stay until sometime in September. (probably around the 20th or 25th), before starting our way back towards the East Coast again. This next month should be really fun. There's the Half Century of Progress Farm Show in 12 days, (starting on the 22nd and ending on the 25th of August), then, on the 25th, long time RVing friends, Roland and Louise, will be arriving and will spend the next 9 days, including the Labor Day weekend, at Prairie Pines with Jim and Linda.
Then, after Labor day, we're hoping some of the "Illinois Bunch" will be able to come to Rantoul for a visit, but no dates have been set for that yet. Besides all of that, both Jim and Linda have eye doctor appointments and Linda has her regular doctor appointment!!!!
Whew!!!!

Yesterday, 8-8-13, we left the Fox Hill RV Park and CG near Baraboo, about 9:55 and headed towards I-90/94/39. Once on the Interstate, we headed South and followed it all the way down to Beloit, WI where Jim pulled Bobbie T into a gas station and filled her up with 87 octane.
You see, gasoline is quite a bit cheaper in Wisconsin than it is in Illinois, so by getting fuel just before we crossed into Illinois, Jim and Linda were able to save the most.
At Rockford, IL. I-39 headed West for a short distance before turning back South and bringing us down here to Utica, IL and the Hickory Hollow Campground. This is also a Passport America Park and they will only give the discount for 2 days and not on the weekends, but if you're just traveling though the area, and you're here at the right time of the week, it's a good deal.
It was 1:30 when we pulled up in front of the office, so we traveled 185 miles in 3 hours and 35 minutes, and that includes the stop for Bobbie T's drink.
The park is OK, nothing fancy. They do have a nice swimming pool and a playground that the kids seem to enjoy, and in some areas, there's quite a bit of shade. Most of the sites are pretty level and I think that all sites have 50 amp electric.
Today we'll head down to Rantoul, where we'll stay until sometime in September. (probably around the 20th or 25th), before starting our way back towards the East Coast again. This next month should be really fun. There's the Half Century of Progress Farm Show in 12 days, (starting on the 22nd and ending on the 25th of August), then, on the 25th, long time RVing friends, Roland and Louise, will be arriving and will spend the next 9 days, including the Labor Day weekend, at Prairie Pines with Jim and Linda.
Then, after Labor day, we're hoping some of the "Illinois Bunch" will be able to come to Rantoul for a visit, but no dates have been set for that yet. Besides all of that, both Jim and Linda have eye doctor appointments and Linda has her regular doctor appointment!!!!
Whew!!!!

Baraboo Candy Company, Mark's Produce and Pierce's Grocery
This is the second of 3 post from our stay at a CG near Baraboo, WI.

64 deg. overcast, no wind.
Forecast = high temp. 78 deg, mostly sunny.
By 11:00 yesterday morning, Jim and Linda were in CLT and heading out of the CG on their way to the Baraboo Candy Company.
Linda really likes the sugar free candy that they sell, so when we’re in this area she stocks up. This time it was no different. ;-)
From there, they headed down to Mark’s Market, which is that produce stand that I mentioned the other day.
They have great produce that is grown locally, much of it by Mark and his wife.
From there, they headed to Pierce’s Marketplace in Baraboo to purchase some groceries and some of that coffee that Jim likes so well.
By the time they were finished shopping at Pierce’s both Jim and Linda were tired so they headed back here, where they had to try to find room for everything that they had purchased.
For dinner last night, they headed out to the little town of Briggsville where there’s a restaurant on a lake that Jim knew about, but when they got there, there was a sign on the door that said that the restaurant was closed on Tuesday’s, so they came back to Wisconsin Dells and ate at Mitzi’s American Grill.
From what I understand, the food and the service was very good and both Jim and Linda said that they would not hesitate to go back again.
Today, the plan is to go to the flag store over in Reedsburg and the go to the cheese store in Lake Delton. After that, they’ll come back here and start to get Bobbie T ready to leave here tomorrow.
